Without a second thought, he leaned toward the nightstand and picked up his phone.

When Damian unlocked the screen, Scarlett instinctively glanced over. That was when she noticed the wallpaper—it was a photo of the two of them together.

She froze for a moment, but before the image could fully register, Damian had already opened his photo gallery.

He pulled up a picture—Vanessa in a hospital bed.

"See? She's okay. Just a minor hairline fracture. You're a doctor, you know how it is—something like this only needs a few days of bed rest."

When she didn't reply, Damian drew her back into his arms. "Feeling better now?"

Scarlett gave a small nod. "Yeah."

He lowered his head until his nose lightly brushed against hers. "Want me to take you out for some fresh air?"

"Okay," she said softly.

Downstairs, the entire Theron family was already gathered in the living room, while the staff moved quietly between the kitchen and dining area.

No one seemed surprised to see Damian coming down with Scarlett—they simply offered warm, casual greetings.

After breakfast, Damian wheeled Scarlett out through the front gate of the estate.

The weather was gorgeous that morning. It wasn't even nine yet, but the sun was already shining bright against a clear blue sky.

Scarlett didn't want to stay in the wheelchair for long. "Damian," she said, "I'd like to try walking on my own for a bit."

"Of course," he replied without hesitation.

Once he helped her up, Damian naturally took her hand in his.

Even without crutches, Scarlett could manage short, slow steps now.

But the ground outside was still slick with patches of frost and leftover snow, so she moved carefully.

When she grew tired, Damian pulled a tissue from his pocket, wiped the frost off a nearby bench, and helped her sit down.

Scarlett looked up at him, her expression serious. "Did you find out who was behind it?"

She didn't spell it out, but Damian knew exactly what she meant.

He saw no point in keeping it from her. "Yes, I did."
