No Second Baby No You Only Divorce (Scarlett and Vincent) novel Chapter 799

Zachary was a genuinely decent man—gentle, thoughtful, and always mindful of respecting women's boundaries.

Still, Claire couldn't shake one harsh thought—she didn't deserve someone as good as him.

She saw herself as broken, forever marked by the abuse she'd endured at the hands of Elias.

Every memory of what Elias had done sent cold dread coiling through her chest, tangled with endless worry.

In her mind, happiness was never meant for someone tainted by her past.

Claire sank her teeth into her lower lip until the sharp metallic warmth of blood spread across her tongue.

Tears spilled free before she could hold them back, and she slammed her fists hard against her thighs and chest over and over.

She knew deep down she was sick, trapped in heavy depression.

No matter how hard she tried, she could not erase the dark scars Elias had left behind.

Selfish as it sounded, she resolved never to start a romance with Zachary or Harris. Both men knew the terrible truth of what she'd suffered under Elias, and she refused to hand them ammunition that could later be used to hurt and judge her.

No matter how kind they were, she dared not let herself fall for either.

Down at Theron Manor, Damian pulled up out front. Clara had curled up fast asleep in Scarlett's arms during the ride.

Damian glanced over quietly and climbed carefully out of the car. He circled around to the rear passenger door and pulled it open. Scarlett leaned forward, ready to lift the sleeping little girl, but Damian beat her to it.

"Let me get her," he said softly.

Scarlett stepped back a little to make space.

Damian leaned into the backseat and lifted Clara gently into his arms.

Scarlett climbed out right behind him, and the two walked side by side toward the manor's main entryway.

Violet and Nathan looked toward the door the second they heard footsteps draw near.

Spotting Scarlett with Damian carrying the sleeping Clara, Violet turned quickly to Nathan. "Go take Clara from him."

Nathan stood and walked over, holding out his hands. "I've got her."

Damian had originally planned to carry the child straight upstairs to bed, but he gave in without argument. "Sure thing."

Once Nathan had Clara settled in his arms, Violet stepped forward and thanked Damian warmly. "I really appreciate your help today."
