After saying that, Nathan looked at Violet again. "It's getting late. Let the little one hang out with her aunt for a while longer, then send her upstairs to bed."
Violet rolled her eyes at him. "Quit rambling. I know the routine already. Head out and come back soon; I don't plan to wait around forever."
Nathan nodded. "Got it."
With that, Nathan headed for the mansion's main foyer entrance.
Though he'd told Damian not to see him off, Damian followed closely behind.
They halted at the doorway. Nathan glanced back at Damian, hesitated briefly, then spoke, "Come over for dinner on Christmas."
Damian froze for a split second before catching the hidden meaning behind the invitation. He replied at once, "Absolutely, I'll be there sharp."
In Rivergate, Christmas marked the traditional day for a young man to visit his girlfriend's family for the holiday meal.
Nathan's invite was clear proof that he fully approved of Damian dating Scarlett.
Nathan stepped out through the front gate afterward.
Damian lingered by the doorway, watching him leave, then hurried straight over to Scarlett. He lifted her clean out of her seat and spun her around in his arms again and again.
Spinning her, he laughed loudly and cheerfully. "Scarlett! Did you hear that? I'm allowed to marry you now!"
Scarlett wrapped both arms tight around his neck to steady herself, her heart pounding wildly in her chest.
She only remembered that Violet and Clara were still in the room and hurried to warn him. "Put me down quick! Clara and Violet are still here."
Damian stopped spinning and held her securely in his embrace, resting his jaw against her shoulder, his voice rough with emotion. "Scarlett, you've no idea how overjoyed I am, how long I've waited for this moment."
Scarlett gave his torso a gentle push. "Set me down first. We can talk about this later, okay?"
Damian couldn't hold back his feelings one second longer. "No, I need to say it now. I've waited nearly eight whole years for this. I had my shot five years ago, and I messed it up all on my own. Now I finally get to hold you and call you mine. I love you, I'm gonna marry you, and we're spending every single day together forever. You're stuck with me for the rest of your life."
He poured out his heartfelt confession without a care that Violet and Clara were still present.
Scarlett burned with embarrassment but couldn't wriggle free from his grip, so she surrendered and looped her arms around his back, patting it softly. "I'm so sorry..."
Damian pulled back from her shoulder, gazing at her glistening eyes and pressed lips, overcome with the urge to kiss her.
