Dawn stuffed everything into the suitcase, then sat down in front of the vanity and let out a heavy breath.

“Dawn.”

Micah had no idea when he’d come to stand behind her. His eyes were full of worry. “Are you sure you’ve really thought this through?”

“Of course.”

Dawn’s breathing suddenly grew heavy. Her eyes reddened. Those memories surged like a violent tide, nearly drowning her.

She dug her nails into her palm, forcing herself to stay calm.

“Micah… I wanna let it go.”

Seeing that her emotions were off, Micah hurried forward and wrapped his arms around her, murmuring softly, “Okay. We’ll let it go. We won’t care about any of it anymore, okay?”

“Okay.”

Dawn’s tears spilled out uncontrollably.

Micah put on an exaggerated sigh. “Then who was it, just a couple of days ago, sobbing like a mess?”

Dawn glared at him. “You got a death wish?”

That comeback came way too fast.

She finally smiled. It was fleeting, but it was better than nothing.

Micah quietly let out a breath of relief. He reached up and fixed her hair, muttering, “Dawn, you’re so pretty. Don’t mess yourself up like some loser. You’ve got an image to maintain. The family’s future looks are riding on you.”

“What about you?”

“I’ll be the loser.”

Dawn rolled her eyes.

They chatted about nothing. Both of them knew they were just trying to distract themselves.

They had no clue whether it worked or not. But at least the room wasn’t so quiet.

Dawn stared blankly in one direction. That lost feeling spread like for, dowly covering her beautiful face.

Ethan pushed the door open from the outside. At a glance, he saw the woman sitting, motionless in front of the vanity, like a porcelain doll.

He frowned and glanced at the air–conditioning panel nearby.

Yet the woman’s face was pale, her forehead slick with sweat.

She’s feeling warm?

He turned it down a few more degrees.

Dawn felt like she’d just dozed off. The beeping drilled into her head, like an alarm pulling her back to reality.

She looked at the man who’d suddenly appeared in the room and pressed her lips together. “How did you get in here?”

The man stared into her eyes.

Two seconds passed. “I walked in.”

Dawn didn’t have the energy to joke with him. She looked away and said nothing.

Ethan’s dark eyes didn’t blink as he watched her as if trying to see straight into her heart. “Dawn, I’ve never understood this. One minute, you said you wanted to get married, and the next you said you didn’t, and you wanted to break up. Am I just someone you can toss aside- whenever you want?”
