Chapter 650

Diana glanced at the window. Dusk had settled. She shook her head and closed her laptop. “No. I need to get back to Jouleston.”
Her work here was done. But the moment she stepped out of the study, Elizabeth appeared at the doorway. She saw the fatigue on Diana’s face and would not let her leave. “Eat first. After dinner, take a good nap. Your health is the key to everything.”
“Grandma…” Diana felt helpless. “I have an early meeting tomorrow. I really have to go back tonight.”
Elizabeth looked pained. “Can’t you go back in the morning?”
Diana laughed and slipped an arm around her shoulders. “I can’t, Grandma. And I’m not tired at all.”
They talked as they walked down the stairs. Diana supported her step by step.
When they passed the second floor, Elizabeth’s gaze drifted to the room Sydney once lived in. She sighed with fondness. “That girl has been back in Jouleston for a while. When you see her, tell her to visit me. I miss her company.”
Diana followed her gaze and looked at the bedroom. A sudden thought struck her. It was sharp and impossible to ignore.
Could Megan have gone into Sydney’s former room during those 20 minutes?
The idea explained everything. Why she took so long. Why she left the banquet hall empty- handed but went upstairs with the hair sample.
At Seraph Villa, Sydney finished treating Florence and stayed for dinner.
Florence’s legs had regained sensation, and she could manage certain movements now.
During dinner, Florence kept placing food on Sydney’s plate. She lightly scolded, “Eat slower. Even if they come back, you have me here.”
Her heart ached for Sydney’s quiet caution. “You have avoided eating with me ever since Penelope joined our family because it must be awkward for you.”
Sydney had not wanted to stay tonight either, but the maids said Florence ate better when she kept her company. Thus, she had agreed.
Once she sat down, she realized the table was filled with dishes she loved. The flavors suited her more than Florence. The treatment felt warm like the welcome given to a married daughter returning home.
The thought made her laugh. She continued gently, “What matters most is that you stay in good spirits. Everything else can wait.”

She kept quiet about the fact that she already knew Penelope was an impostor. It was their family’s private matter. Since no one mentioned it, she would not overstep.
James had planned to attend a dinner engagement that night. But when he heard from Florence that Sydney was eating at home, he canceled and returned at once.
He stepped into the dining room and heard her last words. He handed his suit jacket to a maid and greeted them. “Mom. Sydney.”
Sydney turned toward the familiar voice and smiled. “James, why did you come back? Your mother said you had an engagement tonight.’

Chapter 560
“Plans have changed.” James pulled out the chair beside her and sat down. He picked up the set of clean utensils the maid brought over.
With a warm smile, half teasing, he asked, “Do you know what makes my mom happiest?”
Florence noticed he chose the seat next to Sydney and smiled like a spring breeze. A thought slipped through her mind. ‘Could this boy possibly like Sydney?’
He had never shown interest in any woman. She had even wondered at one point if he preferred men.
Sydney did not think that far. She asked instinctively, “What is it?”
James glanced at his mother and smiled. “Every time she sees you, she stays happy for two days. Sharing a meal with you gives her three.”
Florence did not blush. She lifted her chin. “Of course. Sydney does not annoy me like you and
that brat do.”
Sydney blinked. “Brat?”
“Raymond,” James answered without hesitation.
Sydney was stunned and almost laughed. Few would imagine the fearsome fourth Hutton heir carried that nickname at home.
Her amusement faded when James suddenly asked, “How is that brat doing chasing your bestie?”
Sydney touched her nose. “I’m not sure.”
She did not know how the Huttons felt about it and did not want to say anything that might affect Tiffany.
James noticed her caution and explained, “Diana already talked to Ray. The family will not oppose him pursuing your friend. But there are things he needs to sort out on his own.”
Sydney was surprised. “You’re not against it?”
“Right.” James understood his sister well. That was exactly what Diana meant.
He said nothing more. He did not want to influence Raymond’s decision. Only the person involved could understand a matter like this clearly.
Anyone who pushed even a little, including Tiffany herself, risked carrying the blame if Raymond regretted it later.
Sydney let out a small breath. “Thank you all.”

Whatever happened between Tiffany and Raymond in the future, the fact that the Huttons were willing to ease their stance already meant a lot.
Dinner passed in good spirits. When they finished, Sydney checked the time and guessed Megan and Penelope would return soon, so she did not linger.
The moment she left, James stopped the maids from clearing the table. “Go rest. I’ll handle it.”
Once they stepped away, he brought in his assistant to collect DNA from the used utensils.
Florence realized what he was doing and hesitated, “Is this really okay?”
James met her eyes. “Mom, this is best for Sydney. If she is not the one, she will never know and feel no embarrassment. If she is, would you want to delay meeting her any longer?”
If Sydney was Vee, the Huttons would be over the moon.
