Once a Doormat Now Untouchable (Caleb and Sydney) novel Chapter 575

Chapter 575

Diana lowered her gaze with calm composure. The chill in her eyes vanished without a trace, and her voice remained steady and even. “Very well. One willing, one consenting.”

It was a pity for Sydney, to have once stepped into such an unbearable family.

The image of the young woman’s gentle patience surfaced in Diana’s mind and tightened her chest for reasons she could not explain.

Only Florence grasped the deeper meaning behind those words.

Adeline, however, was overjoyed. “I’ve already consulted a pastor and chosen an auspicious date. Why don’t we finalize the engagement at the charity gala in a couple of days? Both families can settle everything then.”

Adeline wanted to see whether Sydney and Julian would still dare look down on her after she formed ties with the Hutton family

but an alliance with the in full view of the elites of Jouleston and Brimcrest. The Hamptons might not rival the Sterlings now, Huttons would change everything.

Florence understood her intentions at once, and her expression shifted slightly. Before she could speak, Diana lightly patted the back of her hand, signaling her to remain calm.

Then, with an almost imperceptible smile, Diana said, “That depends entirely on Penelope’s wishes.”

Penelope had worried that the Huttons might find the Hamptons too ostentatious. Upon hearing this, her face lit up at once. ” Then that day is perfect!”

The tension she had carried for days finally dissolved, replaced by happiness she had never experienced before.

The Hamptons had truly come to propose, and the Huttons appeared to have accepted her at last. They were even willing to place her engagement at an event as prominent as the charity gala. Everyone would see how highly the Huttons valued their long-lost daughter.

She released a long breath. Thankfully, she had seized everything first. Otherwise, watching Sydney live such a life would have driven her mad with envy.

Megan had gone to a bar the night before and had only just woken up. When she came downstairs and saw the harmonious scene, she frowned instinctively. Something felt wrong, though she could not pinpoint what it was.

This was nothing like Diana’s usual way of handling matters. With Diana’s cautious nature, she should not have fully accepted Penelope’s identity yet. Nor would she marry her own sister into the Hamptons a second time, especially at such a high-profile event.

Megan glanced at Diana. The cold indifference in Diana’s eyes only deepened her unease. Still, this was no longer something Megan could stop. Penelope and Adeline looked so delighted that they probably wished the charity gala were tomorrow.

An engagement required extensive preparation. With time short, Adeline stood at the right moment. “I’ll head back to make arrangements.”

She smiled broadly and gently patted Penelope’s belly. “Rest well and focus on the pregnancy. We’re all waiting for the baby to be born safely.”

This child was not only the Hamptons’ eldest grandchild. It was also the Huttons’ only eldest grandchild through marriage, the bond that would tie the two families even more tightly together.
