The news that Theodore had been shipped off overnight to a project in Leonarus reached Julian the next day.

The source was Theodore's own son.

Julian raised a brow. "When does that project end?"

"The year after next," Raymond answered on the phone without hesitation. No reluctance colored his tone, only a faint hint of gossiping amusement. "From what I heard, less than an hour after my grandfather got back to Seraph Villa last night, my dad was already on a private jet."

Julian let out a low, knowing chuckle. "Your grandfather really is capable of cutting off his own kin."

Raymond said plainly, "That's not cutting off kin. He's just heartbroken for his granddaughter.

"Right after Grandpa got back yesterday, James said something to him. I don't know what, but it made him so angry he ended up in the hospital. Grandma said he was lying in bed crying.

"You know what he's like. The man's tougher than steel. Back in the day, he took a bullet and had it dug out without making a sound…"

"That's enough." Julian already knew where he was going. "Pass along my thanks to your grandfather."

The Hutton family's stance surprised him. On one side stood the son Albus had raised with care and expectation. On the other stood a granddaughter he had only met a handful of times.

Julian had never placed much hope in blood ties alone. That was why he had never mentioned it to Sydney. He did not want her to be disappointed.

"Thank him for what?" Raymond brushed it off. "Sydney is my sister. His granddaughter. Whatever we do is what we should do. My family owes her."

"Alright." Julian did not press further. "I'll take her to the hospital later to visit—"

"Don't," Raymond cut him off immediately. "My grandma and my mom both said the same thing. Don't let her go to the hospital."

Of course the Huttons wanted to see Sydney, but a hospital was not a good place, especially for a pregnant woman.

"The fewer visits, the better."

"Fine," Julian agreed easily. "Then you, as her brother, can visit on her behalf."

When Julian walked in, that was exactly what he saw. Sydney stood there holding a freshly peeled pear, looking utterly resigned.

He could not help but smile. "I've got good news. Want to hear it?"

Sydney's eyes lit up. "Yes."

"Theodore's been sent abroad," Julian said. "He won't be back anytime soon."

"Really?" Sydney looked surprised. "Why?"

"For letting Megan go." Julian met her bright gaze and did not hide it. "Madam Hutton stood up for you again."

Albus had already dealt with the matter once. For him to take action again so soon, the reason was obvious.

Sydney's surprise deepened. "The Huttons really went that far?"
