Once a Doormat Now Untouchable (Caleb and Sydney) novel Chapter 730

At the very least, Caleb remained the Hamptons' only son and sole heir. Leon's situation was different. The divorce would cost him more than his marriage. It would cost him his grip on the Kingston Group.

Sydney didn't know the details, but she agreed completely.

A woman like Diana was worldly, clear-eyed, and backed by an exceptional family. Whoever married her was the one marrying up, at least in Sydney's eyes.

Sydney spoke with absolute certainty. "Exactly. But Diana will never regret it."

She hadn't known Diana for long, but she was still sure of it. Diana wasn't the kind of woman who looked back.

At Brimcrest City…

Leon returned only to be consumed by company business first thing the next morning. By the time he finally surfaced, it was already afternoon.

He checked his watch, picked up his cashmere coat, and headed for the door. He nearly collided with Liam, who was coming the other way.

Leon frowned. "Something urgent?"

"Yes..." Liam hesitated, holding a two-copy document in his hand.

At that moment, he wished Helen were there. Whatever their relationship might be, Leon was always more patient with her when difficult news had to be delivered.

Leon watched him hesitate, and his voice turned colder. "Is the sky falling?"

"No." Sensing his employer's patience wearing thin, Liam forced himself to continue and held out the document. "Ms. Hutton's attorney sent over the divorce agreement. They've asked you to sign it as soon as possible."

He had already reviewed the contents himself. Diana was not asking for a single cent from the Kingstons. Even so, Liam understood exactly how much this divorce would cost Leon.

Marvin's eyes burned with disappointment and fury, and his voice rose to nearly a roar. "Do you have any idea what a fool you've made of yourself?!

"Your father went with you to apologize to your in-laws so you could swallow your pride and save your marriage with Diana, not so you could abandon the entire family for the sake of some shameless woman!"

Marvin hadn't slept all night over the matter. Replacing the heir was a decision that could determine the Kingstons' future.

Leon had spent years at the company without distinguishing himself. He had neither failed nor excelled. Yet with the Huttons backing him, the Kingstons had advanced considerably.

Maintaining the status quo was the best possible outcome. Without the marriage alliance, the Huttons would have no reason to continue supporting them as it had before.

Something in those words struck a nerve, and impatience flickered across Leon's face. "Grandfather, I was willing to apologize because I wanted to resolve this quietly. That doesn't mean we have to bend over backward for the Huttons."
