Seeing things spiraling out of control, Tyrone rushed forward, “Warren, I don’t want the shares. I’m here to ask for your blessing to get back together with Aella.”

Warren shoved Tyrone back. “Don’t call me by my first name. I can’t handle that kind of honor.”

Tyrone was stunned.

For the first time, Miriam dropped all warmth from her voice. “Mr. Winter, you are not welcome in this house. Please leave.”

Tyrone fought through the pain in his shins and turned to Aella. “Aella, say something.”

Aella pointed at the front door. “Tyrone, I’m done standing in the way of you and your ex–girlfriend. I’ve got piano to practice and classes to attend. Just please don’t break my legs. I don’t want to end up in a wheelchair like her.”

Tyrone stood there with his mouth hanging open, staring at Aella in surprise.

Terrified of making her parents even angrier, Tyrone forced himself into the most humble tone he could manage. “Warren, Miriam, please calm down and let me explain.”

Warren’s face had gone a full shade darker. “There’s nothing to explain. Once I’ve drafted the contract, I’ll deliver it to Winter Group personally.”

Two of the Reids‘ servants approached Tyrone. “Mr. Winter, this way, please.”

And just like that, Tyrone was escorted out of the Reid Estate.

In the Reid Estate living room, Miriam and Warren sat on either side of Aella, trying to comfort her.

When Aella saw that her parents looked more upset than she was, she quickly came clean.

“Mom, Dad, don’t worry about me. Zach and Jenny did lure me out to the suburbs, and I did get slapped once. But Tyrone got there and saved me.”

Miriam and Warren exchanged a look.

Warren’s expression turned serious. “You’re saying Tyrone rescued you?”

Aella nodded.

Miriam was confused. “If Tyrone saved you, then how did he also hurt you?”

Aella puffed out her cheeks and scratched her Head.

She admitted sheepishly, “Tyrone just wanted to get back together. He didn’t actually hurt me.”

Miriam frowned and sighed. “Aella, how could you pull something like that?”

Aella mumbled under her breath, her voice getting softer. “He’s the one who wanted to call off the engagement. I just wanted you guys to rough him up a little so I could blow off some steam.”

Warren jumped to his feet and started toward the door. “No, that boy just took a beating from me for nothing. I need to call him back.”

Aella grabbed him before he could move. “Dad, what’s done is done. He deserved it!”

Miriam lightly flicked Aella’s forehead, then turned to her husband. “Let the kids sort out their own mess.”

After watching Tyrone take that beating, Aella felt significantly better.

She clung to Miriam’s arm and whined, “Mom, I’m hungry. Did the kitchen save anything good for me?”

Miriam shook her head with a helpless smile and told the kitchen to prepare food for Aella.

Tyrone walked into the dining room without a word and sat down.

Ralph glanced at his son. “Weren’t you supposed to go with Aella to visit your in–laws this morning?”

Tyrone asked a servant to bring him a place setting.

Ralph eyed him with open disdain. “What, the Reids didn’t even keep you for lunch?”

Under the table, Tyrone silently rubbed his still–throbbing shin and said nothing.

Virginia noticed her son sitting there stone–faced and asked with concern, “Tyrone, is Aella feeling any better? How come you didn’t bring her along?”

Tyrone finally spoke. “She’s fine.”

Raine was gnawing on a rib while chiming in. “Looks like you and Aella made up.”

Raine added, “I bought Aella a bunch of snacks this morning. Take me to the Reids later. I want to see her.”

Tyrone slowly set down the fork he’d just picked up.

He stood. “Mom, Dad, take your time. I’ll wait in the living room.”

Tyrone left the dining room, and Virginia and Ralph exchanged a look.
