**TITLE: Faith Didn’t Survive Time – by Aadi Sharma**
**Chapter 61**
In stark contrast to Adam’s explosive anger, Renee exuded an unshakeable calmness that was almost unnerving.
This stark difference in their emotional states gnawed at Adam’s conscience, leaving him feeling inexplicably guilty. His eyes darted around, unable to settle on her, as he stammered out a half-hearted question, “I heard you left with Mr. Zeller yesterday. Is that true?”
She had already detailed the reason for her phone being off, yet the undeniable truth lingered in the air: she had indeed left with Jasper.
“So what?” Renee shot back, her voice sharp and unwavering. “Are you implying that I slept with Mr. Zeller?” Her icy gaze pierced through him, a chilling reminder of the tension that hung between them.
The intensity of her stare made Adam falter, and he instinctively shook his head, desperate to clarify his intentions.
“N-No! That’s not what I meant!” he stuttered, his voice tinged with panic. “It’s just that your phone was off, and I was worried. You’re a woman, and you’re so…”
He hesitated, the word “pretty” hovering on the tip of his tongue, but he feared it would only fuel her anger further.
Renee’s gaze dropped momentarily, and she deftly pried his fingers from her wrist, her voice dripping with disdain. “So now you’re worried, Mr. Graham? Yesterday, when you were practically pushing me to charm Mr. Zeller, where was your concern then?”
With her wrist free, she lifted her chin defiantly, her cold, mocking smile cutting through the tension like a knife. “Save your hollow concern. Jasper Zeller wouldn’t even spare a glance at a married woman like me.”
With that, she turned on her heel and ascended the stairs, leaving Adam in a state of turmoil.
He watched her retreating figure, each step she took sending a jolt of anxiety through him. He followed her, his voice tinged with desperation. “Renee, I’m really sorry. I was just worried about you. I didn’t want another guy to hurt you.”
She chose to ignore him entirely, her silence a sharp rebuke.
Adam pressed on, his heart racing. “I believe you, and I love you. That’s why I’m concerned. Please don’t be angry. I know you’re still upset about yesterday, but I had no choice, Renee… please.”
He rambled on, trailing behind her, but she quickened her pace, clearly unwilling to engage.
Once inside the bedroom, Renee swung the door open, but just as she was about to close it, Adam darted in, wrapping his arms around her waist. He pressed her against the wall, his lips crashing against hers in a fervent kiss.
After a tense silence that felt like an eternity, she raised her hand and delivered a sharp slap across his face.
“Do you think you have the right to question me?” she seethed, her voice trembling with anger. “You practically shoved me at Jasper Zeller for a business deal! I was drunk last night, and you left me alone at the hotel. If I hadn’t asked Jasper for help, I would have been dragged off by Chris!”
She jabbed her finger into his chest, each word laced with fury. “You should be thanking Jasper! If it weren’t for him, I would have ended up as Chris’s toy!” Her eyes narrowed as she pointed toward the door. “Get out! I don’t want to see you!”
Adam’s face turned crimson, the humiliation washing over him like a cold wave.
Who was Chris Jackson?
He was a name that sent shivers through the streets of Harborview City, notorious for his depraved antics and twisted games. His obsession with married women had left a trail of destruction, with at least seven or eight women completely ruined by his vile pursuits.
The gravity of her words sank in, and Adam was left standing there, grappling with the reality of the situation.
