"Finally!" Ema rose to her feet when she saw Ken riding toward them with her bear at his side. Ema raced toward Yoru and embraced the bear.
As she kissed and caressed her summon, Ken reined in his horse, descended, then looked at Godfrey, who sat on a huge centipede, examining the flute the Two Faced Lady dropped.
"How did it go?"
"Asahi killed her," Ken replied, his eyes trailing from Godfrey to the huge centipede. Its body could end up as an extremely useful resource, especially in the creation of armour.
"The demon’s next then," Ken said.
Godfrey nodded. "That’s why we’ve been waiting for you. We need Yoru." He looked at Ema, who mounted her bear and approached them.
"So?" He rose to his feet.
"Yoru has picked up his scent."
Godfrey nodded, then manifested an Echo of Lament’s horse. He couldn’t afford to use Solstice in his full Dragon form anymore because of the mana it would consume. He was already down quite a bit, and meditation would not be able to cover up for the rate of consumption.
All of them rode out. Godfrey and Ken followed behind Ema, whose bear was quite fast for its large, bulky size.
Tilting his head toward the horse Godfrey rode, Ken marvelled inwardly. His own horse looked thin and menacing, as it was a spirit beast his summon said he found in the spirit world, but this creature Godfrey rode was the very definition of a warhorse.
It had the perfect muscles, and though it had incredible height, it still didn’t lose its perfect build. The armour just made it a bit bulky, but the horse itself was like an athlete at his very peak.
It ran effortlessly, and Godfrey leaned forward, his form flawless, like he had been horse riding since he was a kid.
A faint smile graced Ken’s lips, and he kicked his horse, forcing it to run faster. Ema noticed him catching up to her, so she patted Yoru.
"Don’t let him catch up, Yoru!"
Her bear roared in return, then ran with greater speed. In no time, both of them quickly distanced themselves from Godfrey.
He lifted an eyebrow, chuckling softly. ’There was no need to motivate them this time. Alright.’
Godfrey slowly caressed the horse’s neck. "Let’s catch up." It neighed as if delighted, then shot forward. Godfrey felt like he was flying as the horse seemed to glide through the snow.
It quickly caught up to Ema and Ken, then began to increase its speed. At first, it was behind them, then it ran at the same pace as them.
All three of them rode side by side for a moment before Godfrey went ahead. Ken’s horse also surpassed Yoru.
Both horses seemed to have formed a rivalry as they traversed the expanse so fast, Ema wasn’t just left in the dust, she found herself staring at the horizon, all alone in the dark.
Ema looked around in disbelief. "Are these boys crazy? I’m the tracker!" Her eyes widened in disbelief, then she slapped Yoru.
"Why did you allow some horses to outrun you?! You’ve embarrassed us!" Yoru forced himself to run faster. The bear panted but kept running, yet the horizon remained empty. Godfrey and Ken were long gone.
At a certain point, Ema’s hope dwindled. She might have lost them. How could demigods be so foolish?! They were still young, but still!
How could they leave her all alone in the middle of nowhere? An infected could jump out from anywhere, for all she knew.
