Chloe Reed’s face was tense, and she gripped the bidding paddle in her hand tightly.
The sudden bid of ten million made her immediately think of Walker Grant.
These sapphire earrings didn’t have high collector’s value, nor did they possess any widely known profound meaning.
They could be won for under eight million. Any higher, and people would feel it wasn’t worth it.
That was why, when the bidding reached six million, no one else continued.
After all, there were antiques with actual collector’s value coming up later.
’It had to be him.’
Chloe Reed gritted her teeth, anger flaring in her eyes.
"Ten million, going once!"
The auctioneer was still calling, but Chloe Reed raised her paddle again.
"Ten million, five hundred thousand!"
At this moment.
On the other side.
Sunny Reed had thought the earrings were hers, but to her surprise, someone was still bidding.
She immediately looked at Walker Grant beside her.
She was afraid he would stop bidding.
She said softly, "Walker, if the price gets too high, let’s just forget it. It’s really not worth spending so much on a pair of earrings."
It was a tactical retreat.
In the dim lighting, Walker Grant’s expression was unreadable. He simply raised his paddle again.
"Eleven million!"
Everyone else was shocked.
’There’s nothing that special about these earrings!’
’How could someone bid the price up this high?’
The crowd looked back and forth, eager to see if the other bidder would continue.
Chloe Reed’s fingernails dug into her palm.
She had only brought twenty million with her this time.
If she tried to get more money, she would definitely run out of time.
Right now, all she could do was try.
She took out her phone and called Walker Grant, raising her paddle to bid again while it rang.
After three rings, the call was answered.
Chloe Reed spoke immediately, "Walker Grant, stop it. These earrings belonged to my grandmother. I went through so much to finally find them."
But to her dismay, the voice on the other end wasn’t Walker Grant’s.
Sunny Reed’s surprised voice came through the phone, "Sister, so it was you bidding all along? You should have said something sooner. I would have told Walker to stop."
Chloe Reed’s throat felt like it was stuffed with cotton, and a wave of nausea washed over her. "Why do you have his phone?!"
But Sunny Reed didn’t answer her question. Instead, she said, "Then again, I quite like these earrings, too. I’ll ask Walker in a bit and see what he decides."
With that, she hung up.
