Chloe Reed: [I don’t think so.]
Owen Sterling: [But I’ve never had this much trouble in my life. Ever since I met Mr. Grant... my luck just ran out.]
Owen Sterling: [When are you free? Can we meet? If it really was Mr. Grant, could you please try to talk to him?]
Chloe Reed’s fingers tightened. Just as she was hesitating, a voice spoke from above. "We’re on the first floor."
Chloe Reed immediately locked her phone and shoved it into her pocket.
The car was parked right at the main entrance, and the driver respectfully opened the door.
"Mr. Grant, Ma’am."
"Mm."
Walker Grant acknowledged quietly, letting Chloe Reed get into the car first before getting in from the other side.
Chloe Reed stared out the window, her expression particularly cold.
Walker Grant spoke up. "There’s a dinner party in a few days. You’ll be attending with me."
Chloe Reed refused outright. "I’m not going."
But Walker Grant said slowly, "The dinner party, or being locked up at home. You choose."
Chloe Reed: "..."
She gritted her teeth. ’If I had a knife, I’d stab him to death!’
"Is threatening me all you know how to do?" she scoffed.
A hint of helplessness touched Walker Grant’s eyes. "If I don’t do this, you won’t listen to me."
Chloe Reed’s expression was frosty. "What’s the point? The more you do this, the more I hate you."
Walker Grant’s expression darkened.
Time and again, she told him she hated him, that she didn’t like him.
He hated hearing it.
It felt like an unsolvable, vicious cycle.
No matter how hard he tried, he couldn’t break it.
He just watched her, his gaze heavy. "So, have you made your choice?"
"Staying home sounds nice, actually." Chloe Reed just didn’t want to attend an event with him.
’As if they were still a loving couple.’
It was a message from the bodyguard he had assigned to secretly watch over Chloe Reed.
The gaze was heavy with pressure. Chloe Reed felt it, and her breath hitched in her throat.
’Why is he suddenly looking at me like that?’
’What is he going to fly into a rage about now?’
Chloe Reed kept her gaze fixed on the view outside, refusing to look at him.
Soon, that almost tangible gaze was gone.
Chloe Reed let out a quiet sigh of relief.
The car reached the apartment complex and parked in the underground garage. Walker Grant got out of the car with her.
She immediately said, "I’m here. You don’t have to see me up."
Walker Grant said in a low voice, "I’ll leave after I make you dinner."
Chloe Reed was wary. "I can just order takeout."
"Chloe, don’t refuse me."
Walker Grant stepped in front of her. "It’s useless for you to refuse."
