The next day, Annie York came up to Chloe Reed, glanced around, and whispered, "Chloe, there’s something I need to tell you."
Chloe Reed had just finished her workout and was covered in sweat. She was thinking about taking a shower, but seeing Annie York’s nervous expression, she asked, "What is it?"
Annie York leaned in closer and said, "Last night, Mr. Grant suddenly came to see me. He asked about what happened when we were at the hotel."
Hearing this, Chloe Reed’s gaze turned icy.
’He actually went out of his way to question Annie?’
’Doesn’t he believe what I told him?’
’Hah!’
’Does he really not know me at all?’
’With my personality, if I were really pregnant, I would never hide it and have the baby in secret.’
’A child who doesn’t grow up in a loving environment can’t be happy, so I would eliminate that possibility from the very beginning.’
"What did you say?" Chloe Reed asked, looking at her.
Annie York then recounted their conversation from the previous night.
Chloe Reed looked at her in surprise. "You’re not afraid of him?"
"Of course I am." Annie York nodded. "But I know you’ve been very good to me. I can’t do anything to let you down, and I could never betray you."
A warmth spread through Chloe Reed’s heart, and her lips curved into a smile. "Thank you for thinking that way. But if he ever asks you about anything again, you can just tell him the truth. Let him come to me directly."
Annie York nodded. "Okay!"
Chloe Reed went upstairs, took a shower, and felt much more refreshed. Her phone chimed, and when she picked it up, she saw a message from Iris Yates.
Iris Yates: [Chloe, darling, I have to pick a wedding dress today, and I’m totally overwhelmed! Where are you? Come and help me!]
Chloe Reed called her right away.
Chloe Reed shook her head. "Not at all, Mrs. Yates. I’m glad I could come see how the selection is going."
Mrs. Yates nodded. "Good. You girls can help her out. This child is too lazy; she doesn’t care about her own wedding at all."
She glanced at her watch and said, "Nathaniel and Claire will be here soon. Iris, you’d better behave yourself, you hear?"
Iris Yates nodded. "I know, I know, Mother Dearest!"
Mrs. Yates gave her a playful glare, then went back to looking at wedding dresses.
The shop was a high-end custom design brand. It was too late for a purely handmade gown, so they could only choose from the ready-made collection.
Iris Yates couldn’t help but mutter, "We’ll be divorced in a few years anyway. What’s the point of wearing a beautiful dress for the wedding?"
Chloe Reed immediately covered her mouth. "Keep your voice down!"
Iris Yates blinked innocently. "I know. My mistake."
