Chloe Reed raised an eyebrow slightly and said softly, "You dug this hole, you fill it."

A flicker of resignation crossed Walker Grant’s features. He took her phone and met the old woman’s cloudy eyes on the screen.

"Grandma."

The old woman’s brow furrowed when she saw the face on the screen had changed. "Where’s Chloe? Why is it you?"

Walker Grant put on a placating smile. "Grandma, I’m the one who whisked Chloe away. I wanted to take her on a trip, just to get away and relax for a bit. The trip was planned in a hurry, so we didn’t get to tell you. I’m sorry for making you worry. It was thoughtless of me. I was wrong."

He was so quick to admit his mistake, and with that handsome face of his looking so sincere, the old woman couldn’t bring herself to say anything more.

She was silent for a long moment before saying, "I was just worried because I didn’t know where you had gone. Since you’re on vacation, just enjoy yourselves."

Walker Grant nodded. "Yes, I understand."

He then handed the phone back to Chloe Reed.

Chloe Reed put on an obedient smile, her eyes crinkling as she met her grandmother’s gaze.

"You silly girl."

The old woman chided her affectionately, then said, "Since you’re away, just enjoy yourselves. Don’t overthink things. Nothing’s going to happen on my end. Walker has arranged everything perfectly, so you don’t need to worry."

Chloe Reed nodded. "Okay, Grandma. I understand."

"Alright, if there’s nothing else, I’ll hang up now."

Chloe Reed was about to end the call when the screen went black. Her grandmother was certainly quick on the draw.

Chloe Reed was taken aback for a moment, but she quickly shrugged it off. She put her phone away and gazed out the window.

Her gaze grew distant and her features relaxed, her expression placid.
