"Mmph!"
Iris Yates couldn’t bear it. A painful pressure built in her chest and throat. She shoved him hard, her nails digging into his neck and leaving behind angry red scratches.
But William Quinn was relentless, kissing her with an almost oblivious fervor.
Only when her struggles ceased did he finally let go, pulling her into his embrace.
"You won’t always fight me. You’ll fall in love with me. You will absolutely fall in love with me."
Iris Yates gasped for air, stars bursting in her vision. She felt like she could die at any moment!
’This devil!’
’Fall in love with him?!’
’Not in this life, the next, or the one after that! Never!’
William Quinn’s moods came and went quickly. A smile soon returned to his face as he picked out a pale pink silk gown for her. As he changed her into it, his eyes darkened, and his Adam’s apple bobbed, unable to restrain himself.
"Baby, you’re so beautiful."
He couldn’t resist kissing the back of her hand. "You’re the most beautiful Eastern doll I’ve ever seen."
’An Eastern doll that belonged only to him.’
Iris Yates coldly snatched her hand back and said, "Why don’t you just go die?"
William Quinn, however, didn’t care. He took her hand again and led her out of the room, straight to the restaurant on the same floor.
The square dining table was covered in Chinese dishes. A servant removed all the insulated covers, revealing one delicious-looking dish after another in front of Iris Yates.
William Quinn pulled out a chair for her to sit, then handed her a pair of chopsticks. "Baby, try some."
Iris Yates didn’t speak, just eating in silence. But the moment the food touched her tongue, a profound bitterness welled up inside her.
She was homesick.
She missed her mom.
Mrs. Yates was always setting her up on blind dates, as if she were some unmarriageable spinster, but she still cared about her deeply.
