Chapter 121 Run First
Tristan Whitmore was not about to die.
That was the problem.
The damage to his body was nothing compared with the horror of losing control over it.
His mind took the harder hit.
His crocodile spirit form burst out of his psychic sea and lunged at Julian like a beast gone mad.
Julian did not even spare it a glance.
Ruin had already pounced.

The wolf cub was tiny, but its strength was absurd. It slapped both paws onto the crocodile’s head and pinned the massive spirit form flat to the ground. All the crocodile could do was lie there, huffing.
Everyone thought Julian would throw out a few vicious lines at Tristan.
After all, a Beta defeating an S–rank Alpha was nothing short of terrifying.
Then they watched Julian scoop up the wolf cub, turn around, and run.
Everyone said, “?”
“Julian, why are you running?”
Noah Wells and the others hurried after him, thinking, You’re not going to kick that bastard a few more times?
Julian looked at him like he was looking at an idiot.
“Fighting on campus breaks school rules. Should I stay here and wait for the central AI to send patrol robots to arrest me?”
The words had barely left his mouth when a row of robots rounded the corner in formation, red lights flashing, black gun barrels all aimed at him.
Julian said nothing.
They came fast.
That afternoon, Sylvia Whitmore had been having tea with a close friend, wondering how to comfort her third son after the whole mistaken–child disaster, when the academy called.
“What did you say? Tristan was beaten into the infirmary by a Beta?”
No.
Wait.

An S rauk Alpha had been beaten into the infirmary by a Beta?
Did that make sense?

While Sylvia questioned her own sanity, inside the academy office, Anne Moore was giving Julian the least sincere scolding ever delivered.
“Julian Shaw, how could you hit an Alpha upperclassman that hard? Luckily, nothing serious happened. If it had, you absolutely wouldn’t have escaped punishment.”
Julian stood with both hands behind his back.
Ruin, shrunk down again, sat on his shoulder.
One boy and one wolf looked so upright, so proud, that the teachers handling the matter nearly laughed.
Why?
Because Julian, the Beta, was standing.
Tristan, the S–rank Alpha, was sitting.
And why was he sitting?
Because he could not stand properly.
He was not badly injured.
He simply could not stand steady.
The instructors from battlefield medicine had taken one look at him and almost wanted to keep him as a live research sample.
Unfortunately, a certain Beta still answered calmly, “Don’t worry, Ms. Moore. Nothing will happen. I calculated my force before hitting him.”
The teachers fell silent.
Anne nearly laughed from anger.
୮
“That’s still not acceptable.”
Before she could continue pretending to lecture him, an Omega in a soft blush–pink dress walked in.
Her dark hair was beautifully pinned up, and her amber–gold eyes resembled Julian’s. She had a clean, graceful beauty that made several people in the office look twice.
“You must be Julian’s mother?”
Before Anne could speak, the student affairs chief instructor had already guessed from the Omega’s
appearance.
Sylvia froze.

She was just about to ask what Julian had to do with this when a familiar yet distant voice sounded.
“She is Tristan Whitmore’s mother. She has nothing to do with me.”
Sylvia looked up sharply.
The boy who had spoken stood to one side with his hands behind his back. His posture was straight as a bamboo stem. His delicate pale face had a scrape on it, but his expression remained faint and detached.
“Julian…”
She recognized him almost instantly.
Julian did not even bother looking at her.
Then he lied with his eyes wide open.
“My name isn’t Julian.”
Sylvia said, “?”
She was about to say she knew perfectly well he was Julian when he added, “Really. It’s Lucian Shaw now. I changed it two days ago. Paperwork’s still warm.”
Sylvia said nothing.
Her lips parted, as if she wanted to say more.
But Anne had been through the Zerath incident. She knew exactly what the Whitmores were to Julian, and she knew his attitude toward them.
