Chapter 61 Look Up

Spirit forms were made from psychic power.

That did not mean they were untquchable.

Timshed

Light blades, laser fire, insectoid claws-physical attacks could still tear into them. Worse, pain delivered through a spirit form was often sharper than pain inflicted on the body itself.

So the moment Sain Holt’s Rottweiler took the blow to the head, Sain nearly dropped to his knees.

Cold sweat slid down beneath his black smile mask.

The curve of amusement at his mouth vanished.

“Does it hurt?”

Wrapped in pale violet smoke, Julian drifted close and asked in a quiet, almost casual voice.

Sain did not answer.

Julian turned his wrist and drove the light blade into the suffering Rottweiler again.

This level of injury would not shatter the spirit form.

Good.

Then the spirit form could keep hurting.

And so could its owner.

“Does it hurt?”

Julian asked again.

Sain was drenched in sweat. He tried to lunge at Julian. The Rottweiler, just as frantic, snapped wildly at the pale violet mist.

But from Julian’s point of view, both man and dog were clawing at empty ai

They could not see him.

They could not find him.

Julian stood where he truly was, light blade in one hand. Aside from the swelling around his wrist, his overheated breathing, and the Alpha pheromones still dragging at his body, he barely moved at all.

Under the cheap pink neon, the boy with violet eyes walked step by step toward the maddened Alpha.

Then his blade slid across Sain’s throat.

Clean.

Easy.

Finished

Only then did Sain’s vision clear.

He watched himself collapse.

Blood sprayed from his torn throat. His Rottweiler spirit form began fading with him.

The boy who had trapped him in an illusion and slit his throat was breathing hotly now. His eyes had an unnatural sheen.

A faint, elegant sweetness spread through the air.

An Omega about to enter heat.

Sain laughed.

Blood bubbled from his throat as he did.

So what if he died?

Julian, the murderer, was about to go into heat in the black market. The lowlife Alphas here would destroy him.

Julian knew his own condition was

wrong.

Of course he knew.

He forced air through his lungs, pulled out his wrist/terminal, and typed with trembling fingers.

Julian: “Orion, I think I’m having an episode…”

Julian: “Little black cat asking for help.jpg”

Maybe he was hallucinating.

Because he seemed to hear two message alerts near his ear.

Then two words appeared clearly in the chat box.

Sect Leader Ashford: “Look up.”

“Ha…”

Julian stared at those words, breath hot and broken.

His brain lagged for a second.

Then he slowly raised his head.

Amid the chaotic neon, the man had appeared behind him at some point,

A tailored military coat rested over broad shoulders. His waist was narrow, his posture straight, and his cold emerald eyes looked softer under the shifting light, almost lake-green when he lowered them toward Julian.

For one dazed instant, Julian thought of Zerath.

He had been exhausted there too.

And a silver wolf had stepped into his vision.

It had the same beautiful eyes.

“Are you all right?”

Orion looked down at the boy crouched on the ground. Even his fisually cold, hard voice had turned gentle.

Julian shook his head.

“Not really…”

His breathing was heavy.

Hot.

Restless.

His mind had started to spin, making even his reactions slow.

“It’s all right.”

Orion reached down, pulled him up, and draped the warm military coat over his shoulders.

Powerful Alpha pheromones surged alive at once, wrapping around the Omega without restraint.

Julian sniffed.

The foul coffee-and-cigar scent was crushed flat in an instant.

In its place came the familiar bite of icy liquor, sharp and cold as polar light.

“Mm… Orion, you smell so good…”

Julian blinked blankly, almost drunk on that familiar scent.

“Mm.”
