"Calm down, Lewis."
Phoenix commanded, her intense gaze anchoring his spiraling emotions. Her commanding presence immediately brought the frantic man back to reality.
"I know it sounds insane, but it's the truth," she continued, her tone leaving no room for argument. "Besides, why would I drive all the way out here just to spin you a fairy tale?"
Lewis forced himself to think, analyzing her motives.
Based on her current situation, she had absolutely nothing to gain by lying to him.
But... his sister had died in that crash. She had been burned beyond recognition...
Wait!
Burned beyond recognition?!
What if the charred body they buried wasn't his sister at all?
"Are you absolutely certain... my sister is alive?" Lewis gripped his chest, his voice trembling violently as his heart pounded against his ribs.
"I am," Phoenix nodded, glancing around the desolate slum. "This isn't the place to talk."
Catching her drift, Lewis immediately ushered her inside.
"Yolanda, keep watch. Let me know if anything moves."
"Got it."
Yolanda stood guard by the door, alert as a hunting dog.
The thugs from earlier had long since fled in terror. The rest of the neighborhood kept their distance, whispering among themselves. They couldn't understand why a billionaire had rolled into their squalid territory just to visit the crippled man.
Inside, the shack was completely bare.
Lewis looked at the elegant, impeccably dressed woman sitting in his grim, cramped room, acutely aware of the stark contrast.
"Sorry about the mess..."
"Don't worry about it."
Phoenix pulled up a relatively clean wooden stool and sat down, cutting straight to the chase. "I'm not staying long. I'm just here to deliver the news: your sister, Quinn, is alive."
Even with his mental preparation, the confirmation hit Lewis like a freight train. "So... the victim in that crash wasn't Quinn?"
"They threw me in a cell for four years for a crime I didn't commit. This blood feud ends only when the Prescotts are completely destroyed."
A chill ran down his spine. From her calm words, he heard a hatred so deep it chilled his bones.
He couldn't begin to fathom the hell this beautiful woman had endured to forge such a deadly thirst for vengeance. The naive, hopeful girl he barely remembered from the trial was gone. In her place was a woman made of pure ice.
"Deal," Lewis nodded firmly. "If you can get Quinn out and heal her, my life is yours."
Phoenix stood up, a dangerous smirk playing on her lips. "Don't worry, Lewis. We were both ants crushed under their boots, but now... we're going to write their ending."
"The Prescotts will likely come looking for you soon. When she does, pretend we never met. Act completely clueless and play along with whatever she demands."
"I'll contact you with the details later."
Lewis took a deep breath, clenching his fists. "Understood."
Stepping out of the stifling metal shack, Phoenix inhaled the air—thick with dirt and decay—and let a murderous glint flash in her eyes.
Phoebe was teetering on the edge. Desperate to reclaim her status and Warren's approval, she would undoubtedly make a reckless move. The moment she approached Lewis, she would open Pandora's box and seal her own doom.
