Phoenix stood completely frozen.
Looking back on her journey, the only obsession that kept her going when she walked out of prison was revenge.
When the Prescott family fell, her vengeance was fulfilled.
Moving to Highcrest was just to help Yara fulfill her promise and rescue Nathan.
She had never lusted after the throne of power.
Besides, Yara was in her prime and perfectly capable of restoring her glorious reign over the city.
"Tch, I don't have time to argue with your thick skull. If you really have the guts to leave, go tell Yara yourself." Throwing those words over his shoulder, the medic walked off without looking back.
Stepping out of the St. Claire estate, the night air was cool.
At a glance, Phoenix spotted Pierce leaning against the car door, waiting for her.
"My Queen, please get in." Pierce's lips curved into a gentle, warm smile as he opened the backseat door for her, his movements impeccably elegant.
Phoenix slid into the car, letting her exhausted body sink into the soft leather seat, exhaling a long, heavy breath. "Pierce, I... suddenly feel so empty inside right now."
"Oh?" Pierce slid into the car next to her, naturally pulling her into his embrace, his deep voice carrying a mesmerizing allure. "Tell me about it. Let's see if I can solve my Queen's troubles."
Phoenix let out a soft laugh at his teasing, her taut nerves unwinding slightly. "Don't be so cheesy. Besides..." Her gaze flicked toward Yancy in the driver's seat. "There's someone else here."
"Mrs. Sterling, you can treat me like I don't exist," Yancy said, keeping his eyes perfectly straight ahead. He reached into the glove compartment, pulled out a pair of sunglasses, and put them on with a completely deadpan expression. "I am professionally trained to pretend I'm blind and deaf."
Phoenix rolled her eyes in amusement, but the smile gradually faded from her lips, giving way to a long sigh.
"Truthfully, I've never been an ambitious person." Her gaze drifted blankly to the city lights streaking past the window. "Back when the Prescott family took me in, I naively thought I could just be a regular rich girl. All I ever wanted was the ordinary love of a family."
"But later I realized what a ridiculous fantasy that was. That so-called family was just the bait that dragged me into the abyss."
"From the day I was locked up, I severed all illusions of family. In that man-eating purgatory, I learned how to survive, and I learned... to only love myself."
"I don't even know when I turned into a monster full of nothing but slaughter and revenge. It was that hatred that whipped me into fighting my way here today. Now, the Prescott family is gone, Yara's father is saved..."
Phoenix slowly raised her eyes, her gaze filled with the hollow confusion of someone who had shed all their armor, like a traveler lost in the fog.
"So what exactly... do I live for now?"
