Pampered by my three brothers: the return of the neglected heiress novel Chapter 442

Chapter 442: What’s the difference between tonight and tomorrow?

[PRESENT TIME]

"So, that’s what you promised!" Penny exclaimed, frowning at him with disappointment. "How dare you forget our promise of love?"

"..."

Zoren was utterly speechless at the story he’d just heard from her lips — the same lips that kept wondering how they ended up married. Even though her face was slightly blurry, he could feel the certainty in her story.

"Let me clarify," he muttered. "I agreed to those conditions while high on drugs?"

She nodded. "Don’t forget the cut I gave you while doing so," she reminded him as if that was supposed to be his proudest moment. "I saved your life, and look at you now! Better~! Aren’t you lucky?"

’I’m legally blind,’ was what he wanted to tell her, but it seemed she had forgotten about that. "And how did the marriage happen?"

"I called a friend who knows a friend and that friend knows someone who also knows someone...."

In a brief moment, Zoren was able to grasp the situation based on his observation of his beloved wife.

’It seems when she’s drunk, she doesn’t remember the memories she had when sober. And when sober, she doesn’t remember anything from her drunken state,’ he concluded, rocking his head. ’That explains why she doesn’t know she’s married.’

Thinking about it, a chuckle escaped him. "Haha."

"Husband, why are you laughing so suddenly?" she asked, blinking innocently. "Did you retain permanent brain damage, and your brain feels slightly ticklish?"

"No," he chuckled, snapping his eyes at her. Zoren slowly raised a hand and tucked a portion of her hair behind her ear. "It’s not like that, wife."

"Then, what is it?"

He didn’t answer immediately, smiling and sighing in relief. "It’s just that I feel relieved we married off our own volition." — albeit, neither of them was in the right state of mind to make such a big decision.

All this time, Penny and Zoren had assumed their marriage had something to do with a bigger problem lurking in their shadows. Who would have thought that this marriage was a decision they both made?

’I think I understand now why I held onto her despite not being fully conscious,’ he thought, as he couldn’t recall the events from five years ago. But after hearing her story, he understood why his body reacted the way it did.

He didn’t want to let her go because, in that state, he had recognized her lovely presence. It was the same presence he felt the first time they met again after five years — and the same presence he’d felt twelve years ago when he first met her.

It truly seemed like their fates were intertwined.

"Fine," he said, nodding at her reassuringly. "I’ll give you a honeymoon that will blow your mind."

Her eyes twinkled like a pervert. "Really?"

He nodded.

Zoren arched a brow, hearing that as a challenge. ’Want to bet on that?’ was what his pride urged him to say, but he bit his tongue. Although he had been doing mild exercises regularly, he hadn’t fully regained the strength he had lost due to his failing health.

’And it’s ironic that we met again in a hospital after five years,’ he thought, amused by the coincidence.

"Shall we watch a movie?" he asked, lifting his brows meaningfully and flashing her a wide smile.

Penny pressed her lips together and nodded.

With that settled, the two headed to the theater room in the manor to spend the night on what, for him, was a date. Zoren didn’t think much of it as they started watching any random movie she chose, assuming the night would be calm and uneventful.

He was wrong.

Halfway through the horror film, Penny began chuckling. Zoren raised a brow and glanced at her. He couldn’t fully see the movie because of his vision problems, but he knew the scene was gruesome—the screen was drenched in red.

Yet here she was, laughing.

"What’s funny?" he asked, only to hear her explanation.

"Because that girl should’ve died in one slash, but she stayed alive until the fourth. It’s hilarious—they clearly didn’t do their research."

"..." Zoren opened his mouth, then decided to keep whatever he wanted to say to himself. Instead of commenting further, he focused on the big screen and listened to her laughter.

Penny laughed until the end of the film. Since she wasn’t sleepy yet, she put on another movie. Before he knew it, they were on their third film. And with each one, Penny scooted closer until she was snuggling against him.

Glancing at her, a satisfied smile curled on his lips as he casually caressed her back. Everything was peaceful—until he suddenly started hearing her muffled sniffles.
