[FLASHBACK]
"Four Bennets down... that only leaves Slater Bennet."
Finn gazed down at Nina before he pushed himself up. Turning to leave her to die, he stopped when he felt a weak grip on his ankle. He raised a brow and glanced back at her, only to see Nina opening her mouth, revealing the blood smeared across her teeth.
"Help... me..." she whispered, tears flowing down her cheeks. "... please... Finn."
Finn had his lips drawn into a thin line, staring into her shaky eyes as she cried for help. Her hold on his ankle was loose, and he could easily kick it away. However, he stared down at her without saying a word before a shallow breath slipped past his lips.

Finn sat in a chair beside the hospital bed in a private ward. His eyes were fixed on the woman lying there. Another sigh escaped him.
’I should’ve let her die in there,’ he thought, still watching Nina. ’But then again...’
Finn had known Nina from a very early age, even into adulthood. He often met her because Finn was friends with her husband. Moreover, Atlas used to be Finn’s classmate, so he considered her a friend.
"I wonder what he’d say about this?" he whispered to himself, uncertain of what would happen now. Yet, for some reason, he felt not the slightest hint of regret. If anything, he felt that saving her was the right thing to do.
’She still has her uses once this is all over,’ he thought, raising his brows when he heard the door slide open.
Finn glanced toward the end of the partition, waiting for someone to appear. When he saw the person, no words were needed; he nodded in understanding.
"Keep an eye on her," said Finn as he rose from his seat. "She may not be the real daughter of the Bennets, but she’s still one of them."
"Yes, sir." The man who entered stepped aside and lowered his head.
Finn walked up to the man before pausing to look back at the bed. His expression remained neutral, but his eyes swirled with many unspoken emotions. Without saying a word, he resumed his steps and left the ward.
The second Finn walked out, another bodyguard came to his side. He tilted his head slightly to listen.
"Alright," he said with a slight nod and didn’t linger as he walked away.
What his bodyguard had said wasn’t complicated; he merely informed Finn that someone was waiting for him in the hospital’s conference room. Thus, Finn didn’t bother going anywhere else, taking the lift to the upper floor to meet this person.
Soon, he reached the private conference room and stood before it. Despite his cool and unbothered demeanor, Finn hesitated outside for some reason. When he sighed once more, he raised a hand and knocked.
Knock, knock, knock.
’Zoren Pierson.’ Finn smirked as he approached the man.
"Dean Pierson found out?" Finn snapped his eyes up at Zoren. "How did he know I’m not on his side, but yours?"
Zoren quietly turned and started walking away before he replied. "If you want to keep her alive, I’ll let you be. However, people are already searching for her. She was supposed to die last night, after all."
"So, who did it?" Finn asked, his eyes on Zoren’s back. "Is it him?"
Zoren’s steps slowed until he halted. He drew a deep breath and glanced over his shoulder.
"Finn, pack your things and leave the country," said Zoren in the same plain, emotionless voice. Yet, somehow, the temperature in the room dropped. "Take her with you or not; I don’t care whether Nina Pierson lives or dies."
The smile on Finn’s face faded slightly. "Is it over now?"
"It will be... in forty-two hours." A glint flickered across Zoren’s eyes as he resumed his steps. "The entire Pierson family will fall. Don’t get caught in the rubble." ƒree𝑤ebnσvel.com
After saying his last piece, Zoren walked away, followed by Mark and Benjamin, who were also in the room. Meanwhile, Finn remained in the same spot, watching the three disappear from view.
Gazing down at the piece of paper Zoren had handed him, he saw it was a plane ticket. Another shallow breath escaped him, and his eyelids drooped as he lifted his gaze to the shut door.
"I guess... in a way, his meddling with the Bennet case led him to hell," he whispered and sighed again. "What a twisted fate it is... meddling in someone else’s affair out of boredom, only to find out you’re part of the cause."
