Chapter 281: Chapter 282 A Difference

SOPHIA’S POV

I stared at the envelope in my hands for a long time before opening it.

I didn’t recognize the seal pressed on the front but something about it made me uneasy. It looked official.

I sat alone at the kitchen table inside Sky Manor.

I received this letter a few minutes ago.

I opened the letter and read it. The first line made me freeze.

To Sophia Stone, Recognized Luna of the Stone Pack.

I blinked then I read it again and again. By the third time, my heart was beating so hard I could hear it in my ears.

I knew Damien came from a powerful pack family. I knew there were traditions and customs I never fully understood but Damien had never explained any of it to me.

Apparently, there was a high Lycan Council. I’d heard of it. I’d heard how powerful they were. I just never thought.....they really existed.

The letter continued for several pages.

It formally acknowledged the assaults committed against me. it even contained Helen’s attack, Declan’s involvement, the injuries I suffered, the miscarriage, the hospital incidents.

It contained everything. Every single thing.

My wolf remained quiet inside me.

My hands shook harder as I kept reading.

How did they know all this? How could they possibly know? Were they that powerful? Had they been watching me? Or was this a joke?

I had so many questions.

The details were precise, painfully precise. Even the dates matched.

I reached the final page and sat back in my chair.

My mind felt numb.

According to the letter, I possessed the right to file a formal grievance against members of the Stone Pack. A grievance that would trigger an official Council hearing.

It was a hearing powerful enough to affect the entire pack. It would be a hearing where every accusation would be investigated publicly and officially.

I swallowed hard.

Who exactly were these people?

I looked at the name signed at the bottom.

Lycan High Council.

The title alone sounded intimidating.

My stomach twisted.

I needed answers. There was only one person I trusted to explain this = to me.

I grabbed my phone and called Zade.

He answered before the first ring finished.

"Sophia?"

My wolf instantly calmed down as soon as she heard his voice.

The concern in his voice softened something inside me.

"Are you busy?" I asked.

"No."

The answer came so quickly that I miled.

"Can you come over?" I asked.

"I’m already leaving."

I blinked "What?"

"I’ll be there in ten minutes."

Then he hung up.

I stared at the phone with a huge smile on my face.

Only Zade would treat every request like an emergency.

Exactly nine minutes later, the front door opened.

I heard Patricia greeting him then footsteps.

A moment later, he entered the kitchen. His eyes immediately found me. The concern in them deepened.

"What happened?" he asked.

“Hey” I said softly.

I pushed the letter across the table.

He took it and began reading. As he read, his expression changed.

He didn’t look surprised. It seemed like he already knew about this council.

By the time he finished, he slowly exhaled.

"They contacted you." I asked.

I frowned "You knew about this?"

"Not really but I suspected they would. I’m glad they did"

I stared at him in shock.

He smiled as he pulled out a chair and sat beside me.

The kitchen suddenly felt smaller and warmer.

My wolf purred inside me.

"What exactly is the Lycan High Council?" I asked.

Zade folded his arms "They’re a very powerful council. The most powerful, in fact. They’re way above Alpha families."

I blinked "What?"

His expression remained serious.

"Every major pack answers to them."

I stared at him in shock.

Even now, that felt impossible. The Stone family controlled entire territories. People feared and respected them. That’s why they felt they could get away with anything. Yet someone existed above them?

"They can remove Alphas," Zade said.

I nearly dropped my cup.

"What?"

"They can sanction packs, freeze resources and strip authority. They can shut down a whole pack if they wanted to"

I stared at him in disbelief "They’re that powerful?"

"Much more powerful than you can imagine."

A chill moved through me.

I looked back down at the letter. Suddenly it seemed even more important.

I swallowed "And Elder Caine?"

"Elder Caine is one of the most respected members of the Council. Everyone fears him"

That answer surprised me.

The seriousness in his voice wasn’t exaggerated. He meant it.

"If Caine personally stepped in," Zade continued, "things are already much bigger than anyone in the Stone family realizes."

I leaned back slowly.

Everything felt unreal. Months ago, I was simply trying to survive my marriage.

Now powerful organizations I didn’t even know existed were sending me official letters.

Life truly made no sense.
