"If I were petty, why would I still bring you food?" Tang Yue raised an eyebrow in retort.
Zhang Minmin choked up, not knowing how to respond.
The agent had already brought over freshly cooked pancakes. Seeing the steaming dumplings, Zhang Minmin was instantly filled with appetite, ignoring the earlier awkwardness.
A plate of dumplings, enough to steam fifteen pieces, Zhang Minmin stuffed one into her mouth at a time. She loved eating dumplings, and among the many she had tried, only the ones made by her mom and those at Tang Yue’s house suited her taste, the flavor carrying the essence of home.
"Delicious." Zhang Minmin’s mouth was full, with no regard for image at all.
Tang Yue couldn’t be bothered to remind her and just sat on the side, observing Zhang Minmin. She had been in this industry for many years, and her status had skyrocketed. From starting as an extra to becoming an extremely popular star, even a household name. The struggle behind this was something only she understood.
What’s even more commendable is that despite her long tenure in the industry, Zhang Minmin hasn’t distanced herself from old friends due to her rising status; nor is she the kind to look down on others.
The hour passed quickly. Zhang Minmin reluctantly looked at Tang Yue, repeatedly advising her to visit the two children next time she came to Jing City.
Tang Yue smiled lightly, "Alright, alright, you’re such a busy person. Come when you’re free."
"I don’t want to be this busy either." Zhang Minmin, feeling constrained, had back-to-back film contracts. Even though she turned down quite a few roles, she still took on several projects. There were endorsements and advertisements too. Even if Zhang Minmin wanted to rest, she had no time. She spent 340 days of the year on set, and the remaining days were spent rushing for endorsements.
Many times, meeting her parents was rushed. Sometimes Mr. Zhang and Mrs. Zhang, feeling distressed for Zhang Minmin, would come with large bags of food to see her when they had the time.
After Tang Yue left the scene, she didn’t rush to take a car home. Instead, she wandered nearby, walking around, allowing her busy mind some peace.
Yet, perhaps she didn’t check her horoscope before going out today.
She bumped into Lian Qingqing again.
In just a few days, who knew what fate she and Lian Qingqing had, to meet for the third time.
Not far off, it seemed Lian Qingqing had just gotten down from a car. Under the streetlights, it was vaguely visible that her clothes were disheveled, her messy dress leaning into the car...
That scene, not only Tang Yue but anyone with a bit of sense, could guess what she had been doing in the car.
Fan Ming.
Tang Yue had sharp eyes and spotted Fan Ming in the car the moment Lian Qingqing stood up.
Lian Qingqing and Fan Ming were saying something, and soon, Fan Ming left.
Lian Qingqing tidied her clothes and planned to drive home. When she turned around, she saw Tang Yue from a distance.
Lian Qingqing’s expression changed. Hadn’t Tang Yue witnessed the whole scene just now?
Lian Qingqing opened her mouth but ultimately said nothing.
"My not saying anything doesn’t mean it can be hidden from everyone," Tang Yue didn’t want to say more and stood to leave.
Lian Qingqing’s beautiful eyes glared at her. Over the years, Tang Yue had become even more beautiful. As a mother, she radiated a maternal glow. Her pretty face exuded kindness, and her gentle, serene eyes shone with happiness.
She seemed like Heaven’s favored child, blessed by fate, with a biological mother and stepfather who doted on her. The father she had never met regarded her as precious, and her husband was a military elite, cold to everyone else but warm to Tang Yue. Even without knowing their marriage’s workings, one could see their happy life on Tang Yue’s face.
The two lively, adorable children, originally her biological brother, now only recognized Tang Yue as an older sister, completely forgetting her, who grew up with them.
"Tang Yue." Lian Qingqing called after her, "Someone who’s never experienced it won’t know how hard life is after leaving the Lian family. It was very challenging for me to establish myself at D Jewelry Company!"
"With your father’s care and brother’s protection, sheltered completely, how could you understand my hardships?" A bitter expression crossed Lian Qingqing’s face. She genuinely didn’t want others to know about her and Fan Ming.
If, if she had another choice, why would she have... chosen this path?
Even though Fan Ming told her countless times he’d marry her, before he did, she absolutely couldn’t let anyone find out. They purposely chose less noticeable places to meet, yet she still ran into the last person she wanted to.
Appearing so humiliated before Tang Yue was the last thing she wanted.
"Even without the Lian family, I wouldn’t take this path." Tang Yue stood tall, saying, "One must have boundaries. If you have the courage to be a third party, then be prepared to handle the criticism."
