"You’re going on another business trip?" Tang Yue looked at Si Yu with such reluctance, thinking he was going on another business trip.
"No." Si Yu held her, wishing he could hide her away for only himself to see.
Tang Yue examined him and asked, "If it’s not a business trip, what’s with that expression? Is something wrong?"
Tang Yue rested her chin on one hand, leisurely studying Si Yu, as if trying to figure out what was making him so hesitant to speak.
"Xiao Yue, Dad wants us to go back to the Meng Family for dinner." Si Yu said word by word.
"Then let’s go."
Tang Yue replied without a second thought. After all these years since acknowledging Meng Jin, although she hadn’t completely forgotten what Grandpa Meng did before, at least she treated it like visiting a relative.
Usually, during the Chinese New Year and festivals, she wouldn’t necessarily go back to the Meng Family every time, but at least they have meals together quite often.
"Could it be..." After answering, Tang Yue sensed something was off. If it were just an ordinary meal at the Meng Family, Si Yu wouldn’t have been so hesitant. She stared at Si Yu, thinking for a long time before saying, "Is he back?"
"My wife is just so clever." Si Yu extended his long arm, pulling her into his embrace, complimenting her while inhaling the fragrance of her hair.
"Even if he’s back, it’s fine."
Settled in his arms, Tang Yue said, "From the moment I recognized the Meng Family, I knew I would have to face him sooner or later. He’s not a tiger; he can’t eat me, can he? So many years have passed; I suppose he... has lost any intentions, anyway."
"Besides, you would protect me, right?"
Tang Yue wrapped her arms around his waist, looking up at Si Yu with complete trust in her eyes.
"Yes." Si Yu replied firmly, tightening his grip.
...
Hospital.
By the time Zhou Cheng came out, half the morning had passed. Once it was confirmed that Zhou Cheng was not in any life-threatening danger, Zhu Liniang was persuaded to go rest, and Tang Jun took over keeping watch by Zhou Cheng’s side.
Zhou Cheng was young, and although he was severely injured in the car accident, fortunately, he was saved in time. As long as he recuperated well, he could eventually return to being lively as before.
"You should get some sleep too." Taking advantage of the current lull, Yuan Yu suggested that Tang Jun also take a rest; Tang Jun’s eyes were bloodshot.
"It’s alright, I can manage." Tang Jun didn’t want to leave.
After several failed attempts to persuade him, Yuan Yu stopped trying and instead helped out with Zhou Cheng’s matters as much as possible when she was free, to ease Tang Jun’s load.
Yuan Yu didn’t go home after her shift but took Zhu Liniang to her place for a bath and change of clothes.
"Sister Zhu, just turn on the hot water, it’s ready. These clothes are new; I haven’t worn them yet." Yuan Yu handed over a set of new clothes.
"Oh, I can’t accept this; just give me a set of your old clothes."
