Hungry.
Wen Yun took a shower and usually fell asleep the moment she hit the pillow, but with her stomach empty, she tossed and turned, unable to sleep.
Since her mother left, Wen Yun’s meals had been irregular, and she developed stomach pain because of it. If she went to bed late, she had to eat something, or else her stomach felt unbearably hungry.
She was already exhausted from working overtime today, but when she got home, she couldn’t eat the bread she had saved for herself, and now her whole body felt uncomfortable, her stomach especially.
She rolled back and forth in bed.
’Knock knock.’
The door suddenly knocked, and Wen Yun, who was feeling unwell, was startled.
"Wen Yun, are you feeling unwell?"
Passing by Wen Yun’s room on his way back, Meng Yanzhi felt he heard faint noises from inside, and felt as if Wen Yun might be in discomfort.
"No."
Wen Yun replied weakly, adding in her heart: Because I’m hungry.
Meng Yanzhi still couldn’t shake his concern upon hearing her reply, as her voice sounded weak.
He said, "I’m coming in."
Meng Yanzhi tried the door, but found it wouldn’t turn; it must be locked from the inside.
"What’s going on?"
Thinking Meng Yanzhi had something to do, Wen Yun struggled to open the door, completely forgetting the earlier awkwardness.
"Why do you look so pale?"
Upon seeing Wen Yun, Meng Yanzhi noticed her face was incredibly pale, without a hint of color.
"No."
Wen Yun shook her head, leaning against the door, asked, "Do you need something?"
"You’re not looking well. I’ll call a doctor for you." Meng Yanzhi felt she was just trying to hold on, so he pulled out his phone to call the family doctor.
Yet, before he made the call, Wen Yun snatched the phone away.
"Don’t call, I’m really okay, just hungry, unbearably hungry."
Wen Yun hurriedly snatched his phone, disregarding her embarrassment.
Meng Yanzhi: "..."
Fifteen minutes later.
Wen Yun looked at the appealing bowl of egg noodles and couldn’t help but glance at Meng Yanzhi, then at the noodles, seemingly wondering how he could cook noodles.
"Didn’t you say you were starving? Hurry and eat."
Meng Yanzhi wiped his hands clean and sat down across from her.
Wen Yun didn’t nitpick; under the circumstances of being so hungry, having a bowl of steaming egg noodles was happiness in itself.
Perhaps it was her illusion, but this bowl of egg noodles tasted exceptionally good, so much so that Wen Yun drank all the soup.
"Delicious."
Wen Yun patted her warm belly, feeling her stomach all cozy and full, all her discomfort gone as if it disappeared in an instant, now brimming with energy.
"Of course, I made it myself, how could it not be good?" Meng Yanzhi said coolly, looking proud.
"Impressive."
Wen Yun continued to praise, "I didn’t expect you could cook such delicious noodles."
"Hmm."
Meng Yanzhi had also eaten a big bowl of noodles, looking at the uncleaned bowls and chopsticks.
Wen Yun immediately got up, saying, "You made the noodles, I’ll wash the bowls."
After Wen Yun finished washing the bowls and came out, Meng Yanzhi was still sitting in the living room. Wen Yun pondered whether Meng Yanzhi had something else to say. As she passed through the living room, she casually greeted him before returning to her room to rest.
Meng Yanzhi sat in the empty living room, watching Wen Yun’s departing figure, silently wondering if, as a couple who hadn’t seen each other for half a year, there was really nothing to talk about.
