After completing the enrollment procedures, the couple thanked the department head and said goodbye before following the young counselor to their dormitory.
Pushing the cart, the two listened to the counselor explaining the buildings along the way.
As Zhang Guoqing interacted with the counselor, Zhou Jiao quickly analyzed the information. This Counselor Wu with the surname Wu was their senior who had stayed at the school and was now a lecturer.
The dormitory assigned to her and her husband wasn’t far from his residence. This area predominantly housed single teachers, graduate students, and some student dormitories.
Just as Counselor Wu took out the key, a few people ran over from afar, shouting for Xiao Wu.
Zhang Guoqing had anticipated meeting acquaintances, but didn’t expect it to happen so soon. Apparently this guy belonged to the student category as well, making Zhang Guoqing laugh heartily.
"When did you guys come back to Beijing? How come I didn’t get any notice? We thought you wouldn’t return for another week. Why didn’t you contact me when you came to the school?"
The person who came was Wan Dayong, a buddy from the big courtyard who had just entered the university last year. Besides him, there were three unfamiliar male students.
"We arrived last night and haven’t had the chance to find you all. We truly didn’t know you were on campus. Where are you headed?" Zhang Guoqing smiled and nodded to the people around him.
Wan Dayong happily stepped forward and hugged him, "Come on, let me introduce you. This is my good buddy Zhang Guoqing I’ve talked about. This is the precious darling of our courtyard, his wife Zhou Jiao. How about it?"
After speaking, he winked at the others.
Zhou Jiao didn’t need to think to know that this guy probably hadn’t said anything good about her and her husband. She smiled and nodded at the others.
"This is Zhang Lichang, Cheng Yige, and Wang Dacheng. The three of them live on the left side of our courtyard. Teacher Wu, why don’t you show them the dormitory first? Come on, let’s chat inside."
Zhang Guoqing smiled apologetically at Counselor Wu.
"Xiao Wu, several of us from the courtyard live on the second floor of this building. It’s quite lively right now. I live in 206 on the second floor, just come find me directly if you need anything."
Zhang Guoqing was pushed forward by him, feeling relieved upon confirming they were all in this building. He didn’t voice it though, they weren’t curious about him and his wife’s move-in, probably had anticipated it.
Entering the hallway, everything in view reminded Zhang Guoqing of his elder sister’s apartment building, but better as it lacked cooking smoke.
On the third floor, third door to the left, with a 303 sign at the door, this was their single dormitory. Upon opening, it was indeed a double room like Wan Dayong and the others.
Inside there were two single beds, a desk placed by the window. The lighting was bright, and the view outside was beautiful through the window.
This condition already satisfied Zhou Jiao greatly. On campus, there was a canteen, bathhouse, post office, service center, life facilities were complete.
"About the same as ours, tidy up later. Xiao Wu, why isn’t your wife at the neighboring university? All the girls are over there." Wan Dayong circled around the room, nodded theatrically.
Zhang Guoqing couldn’t bother to respond to Wan Dayong’s question. He was busy exchanging keys with Counselor Wu and consulting about school activities.
Beside him, Zhou Jiao laughed, "The university next door didn’t want me, so I can only hang out with you guys."
"Stop joking. As if they wouldn’t want you, we know your glorious deeds."
"Wan Ge, tell us what deeds."
Wan Dayong laughed and waved his hand, "Just kidding. You really took it seriously?" Some things were told by his dad, related to their big courtyard, not for outsiders.
Seeing Zhang Guoqing was done, he quickly said, "Let’s go, I’ll treat you two to a meal at the canteen."
"No need, old bachelor, I still have to go home to take care of the child. Just keep meal tickets for when school starts." Zhang Guoqing politely declined, all being so familiar, too much politeness wasn’t necessary.
