The three made their way out with the crowd, and Huo Jingrui asked, "Where did we park the car?"
Guo Qiming pointed across the street. "That one over there."
The driver in the car must have seen them, even honking the horn.
While Guo Qiming handled the luggage, Huo Jingrui took Yunyi by the arm into the back seat. After greeting the driver, Guo Qiming also took his seat in the passenger side. "Let’s go. I’ll drive on the way back."
Both Guo Qiming and the driver were the talkative types, chatting about everything under the sun. Yunyi occasionally chipped in, making the drive rather enjoyable.
However, when the driver brought up the topic of children, Guo Qiming’s mood suddenly plummeted.
Yunyi, keenly sensitive, noticed something was off with Guo Qiming. She nudged Huo Jingrui with her elbow and gestured with her eyes for him to look ahead.
Huo Jingrui was somewhat aware of Guo Qiming’s situation. Thinking of Yunyi’s medical skills, he conveyed in lip-reading, "Qiming and his wife have been married for five years without a child. His mother has given them one more year. If his wife still isn’t pregnant by then, they must divorce. He’s had quite a few disputes with his family over this."
Considering Yunyi’s medical expertise, he ventured to ask, "Yi’er, could you possibly take a look at them?"
He knew that over the years, Guo Qiming had never stopped seeking medical help with his wife, but with each consultation, their hope was as great as their disappointment.
After a moment of consideration, Yunyi replied in lip-reading, "I can try, but I can’t guarantee a cure."
Huo Jingrui thought, If even Yi’er can’t cure them, then they’re probably truly hopeless.
He and his wife were now the type of people who, in their desperation, would try any doctor. Though his sister-in-law was young, she had inherited a family legacy. Besides, he knew Brother Huo’s character; he wasn’t one to make irresponsible claims. Since Brother Huo had suggested it, his sister-in-law’s medical skills must be extraordinary.
Yunyi, understanding his situation, did not refuse. She reached out and took his pulse. "Switch hands and let me feel the other one."
Hearing this, Guo Qiming said nervously, "Sister-in-law, I..." He trailed off, unsure what to ask. If it was his problem, he truly didn’t dare to imagine the injustice his wife had suffered all these years.
In their first year of marriage, when his wife showed no signs of pregnancy, his mother managed to stay patient, reasoning that some people simply conceive later. His wife was extremely grateful.
The second year, with no change in his wife’s condition, his mother didn’t complain outright but was visibly unhappy and constantly watched his wife’s belly, to the point where his wife dreaded returning home after work.
In their third year of marriage, his mother grew constantly discontent, insisting that he take his wife for a medical examination. After learning that his wife suffered from a cold womb, his mother sought remedies everywhere.
