Auntie Qi hadn’t finished speaking when she blew her nose loudly.
Huo Jingrui looked at her with a slight feeling of distaste and discreetly stepped back half a step, turning his gaze towards the gate of the family courtyard.
Just then, her son, who had been transferred back from the city machinery factory to be the workshop director at the third workshop, rushed over: "Mom, what are you doing here?"
After asking, he hurriedly greeted Huo Jingrui: "Vice Factory Director Huo, I’ll take my mom back right away."
He said as he reached out to grab his mother.
But Auntie Qi, who had recovered by now, freed one hand and grabbed her son’s arm: "Guoqing, quick, the dog’s taken our cornbread."
She pointed in the direction where the dog ran away.
Qi Guoqing, hearing his mother’s words, looked around only to see no sign of the dog, feeling his mother made him lose face in front of Vice Factory Director Huo: "Mom, don’t be silly. Besides, the dog must have run far away by now, can you still eat that cornbread if you catch it?"
What he didn’t say was, once something enters a dog’s mouth, it’s unlikely to come out.
Auntie Qi heard her son’s remarks and slapped her thigh: "That damned dog, just barely took my eyes off it and it took my cornbread that I made with the fresh yellow cornmeal we got. I even added less saccharin, it was so tasty."
Looking in the direction where the dog ran, she showed a face full of regret.
Suddenly thinking of something, she turned to Huo Jingrui: "Vice Factory Director Huo, see this, had I known your family was allergic to yellow cornmeal, I wouldn’t have sent it over. It’s a fortune for that damned dog."
The words sound alright on the surface, but best not to dwell on them.
Huo Jiayuan, in the courtyard, keenly noticed a cat jumping up onto the Qi Family’s courtyard wall, heading toward the empty bowl: "Auntie Qi, if you keep complaining here, that bowl on the wall might be at risk too."
