Huo Jingrui gave her a reassuring look: "Don’t worry, we’ll make sure they’re satisfied."
The ingredients were prepared yesterday; a big pot of eight-treasure porridge was simmered, and dough with mixed flour was left to rise, part of it for steamed buns and part for twisted rolls.
You ask why not make pure white flour ones, well, to keep it low-profile. This mixed flour is seventy percent white flour and thirty percent cornmeal; it’s quite tasty.
Yunyi finished washing and packed the things she and Huo Jingrui needed to take. Just as she stepped out of the yard, she heard someone knocking on the front door.
Busy in the kitchen, Huo Jingrui also came out upon hearing the commotion and opened the door before Yunyi: "You all sure come early."
The person, seeing Huo Jingrui, grinned broadly: "Comrade Huo, we meet again."
Huo Jingrui smiled and invited them in: "Come on in."
He then addressed the man behind: "Really appreciate your help this time."
Both said at the same time: "No trouble at all, it’s on the way."
Huo Jingrui turned to Yunyi in the yard: "Yi’er, this is Brother Li, the driver, and behind him is Brother Tian, in charge of overseeing the vehicle."
Yunyi quickly welcomed the two warmly into the living room.
Then she let Huo Jingrui handle the greeting while she went to the kitchen and brought out a large pot of eight-treasure porridge: "Two brothers, have something hot before we get busy."
Seeing the breakfast Yunyi brought, their smiles became even more sincere.
Huo Jingrui placed the thick and fragrant eight-treasure porridge: "There’s more in the kitchen, help yourselves."
After serving the two brothers, he also served Yunyi a bowl: "Yi’er, sit down and eat too."
