Jiang Huaisheng had already calculated the time and the speed of the ships. They set off at this hour, and by the time the night was deep and silent, they would meet the Dongyi Kingdom’s fleet. Using the cover of darkness, they would board the Dongyi warships and take down the Commander.
Afterwards, Liu Shucheng would order people to seize the Dongyi Kingdom warships, guiding them to the ambush spot at Changdao that Liu Shucheng had previously scouted with fishermen. This would cause their ships to either get trapped on the hidden reefs, or after their demise... that’s when Zhou’s navy would come into play.
Colleagues of Liu Shucheng rushed to the scene, only to see that Liu Shucheng had already set off in a small boat some distance away. They stood at the forefront of the warship, shouting loudly, "General Liu! Return alive!"
Upon hearing the shouts, Liu Shucheng turned back, the orange glow enveloping him entirely. He gave his comrades a long bow from the boat’s bow, his expression resolute...
If he does not perish, he will surely bring these elite soldiers, these sons of a mother, fathers of children, all back safely.
Just as planned before, under the cover of night, the fleet moved cautiously across the sea. Upon sighting the Dongyi Kingdom warships cutting through the waves, Liu Shucheng gave an order. The navy soldiers immediately entered the water, cautiously and carefully swimming towards the Dongyi Kingdom warships.
Each elite soldier in the navy was a dragon among men in Zhou. They were swift, following Liu Shucheng’s instructions, organizing into fifteen groups of ten, each heading towards the respective fourteen warships, with the team led by Liu Shucheng targeting the main warship.
Another team stayed behind awaiting orders. Once the tasks of killing the Dongyi naval leader, setting warships on fire, and seizing ships were accomplished, they would board the captured ships and guide the Dongyi navy towards Changdao. If they failed to seize warships, the soldiers on the small boats would intentionally expose themselves to lure the Dongyi navy in the direction of the ambush at Changdao, trapping the Dongyi.
Before leaving, Liu Shucheng had ordered... the team remaining on the boats should not wait for their return. Once discovered... they were to do everything possible to lead the Dongyi Kingdom navy towards Changdao to prevent complete annihilation here should they fail to capture warships.
They wore waterproof black suits, using tools to securely latch onto the ship’s hull, cautiously and slowly climbing up one by one, fixing themselves onto the vessel.
The chill of the sea at night was imaginable. Liu Shucheng and others emerged from the icy waters, clinging onto the fast-moving ship like geckos, his eyes firm, seizing the moment to jump on board with five men.
Liu Shucheng had plans in place; although this was a suicide squad, it was not a death wish. Except for the team seizing the warship, he arranged for personnel from each squad to seize the lifeboats on the targeted warship. After all, even if one team captured one lifeboat, their chances of survival would increase significantly.
The other five hugged the vessel tightly, awaiting the next command.
These soldiers all knew their mission. To minimize the loss in the upcoming Zhou navy battle, they... even if they died, had to complete the task before their death.
General Huaisheng said that each navy soldier was a son to an elderly mother and a father to young children. They were willing to be the vanguard as long as they could accomplish the mission through their skills. This would save many mothers of Zhou from losing their sons... reducing the old from suffering the pain of losing a child, saving numerous fathers for young children... sparing the young from the pain of losing spouses.
Their sacrifice was to forge a stronger Zhou, free from enemy invasions. Once Dongyi was defeated in this battle, the people of Zhou would enjoy eternal Taiping.
General Huaisheng also said that they chose to sacrifice themselves, fighting so that their children would never need to sacrifice or fight again in the future.
Thus, none of them expected to return alive. Their focus was on completing the mission before death.
They couldn’t fulfill their filial duties to their parents, as they knew they might go first, but all of this... was worth it.
