Chapter 122 Devastating Avalanche
Everyone knew there was nothing left outside worth scavenging. If they wanted to survive, they had to grow their own food.
Three days later, the patrol reported that several more groups of refugees had tried to approach the hilltop shelter and been turned away.
But as more and more refugees arrived, the patrols would eventually be overwhelmed.
That was where Beckett came in.
Leonel contacted him immediately and asked him to send men to patrol and defend the area.
In return, Leonel would provide three meals a day and extra pay for the danger involved
Beckett readily agreed.
When Scott heard about the arrangement, he refused to be left out. He voluntarily sent more than 100 people to help keep order.
That day, Autumn spotted another bonfire.
As usual, she grabbed her weapon and went to meet the group of more than 20 refugees.
This time, however, they had no information to trade. They needed her help.
Other refugees who had been stopped by the patrols had noticed that this group had food and water. Several groups had joined forces and tried to rob them.
With nowhere else to turn, they lit the bonfire and called Autumn før help.
Autumn didn’t hesitate. She raised her gun and fired.
Bang! Bang! Bang!
The shots brought the attackers to an immediate halt.
“You’re causing trouble on my turf. Do you have no respect for me, or do you have no respect for the gun in my hand?” Autumn kept her weapon raised and slowly swept it across the crowd.
The attackers immediately released their victims and backed away. One of them hurried to explain, “You’ve got it wrong, sir. We meant no disrespect. We’re starving, and we’re only trying to survive. Things got a little heated while we were talking. That’s all. We can work this out.”
One of the boys who had been beaten shouted, “He’s lying! They didn’t just want our food and water. They were going to take us away and eat us!”
