Reborn Cave Queen of the End Times novel Chapter 23

Chapter 23 Mutual Protection

“Besides, I’m leading a team this large, and our daily expenses are enormous. Since they trust me and choose to follow me, I can’t let them suffer. And as neighbors, we’ll naturally extend our protection to you as well. We’re the only two households on this mountain. If you’re ever in danger, I absolutely won’t stand by and do nothing. Besides, with so many of my supplies stored on your side, you’ll feel more at ease about me too, won’t you?”

Leonel truly deserved his reputation as a self-made powerhouse who had rebuilt his fortune from the ground up. He immediately saw through Autumn’s wariness and gave her exactly the reassurance she needed.

“You trust me that much, Mr. Wright?” Autumn asked back. “Aren’t you worried I’ll keep everything for myself?”

“I don’t really care. These supplies are only a tiny fraction of everything I own. If you like them, I can give them all to you. Compared to those supplies, what I need more is timely information from you.” He spread his hands. “I simply just want to work with you.”

Autumn lowered her eyes and thought about it for a long time.

Having a powerful neighbor like him was both a good thing and a bad thing.

When food and necessities were plentiful, it was a good thing.

When supplies became scarce, it was a bad thing.

If it were just Autumn alone, she wouldn’t have been worried. At worst, she could pack up and leave.

But she had David to think about.

David was just an ordinary man. He looked strong, but in the eyes of someone who actually knew how to fight, he was practically helpless.

Otherwise, in her previous life, he wouldn’t have died such a miserable death at the hands of a group of thugs.

David treated her like a daughter, and she had long since come to see him as family too.

“Alright.” Autumn agreed immediately. “We can share resources and information.”

“I’ll keep gathering supplies during this final critical period.” Seeing that Autumn had agreed, Leonel continued, “Over the next few days, there’ll be a steady stream of trucks coming here. Some of the supplies aren’t exactly the kind of things that can be openly discussed. I hope you’ll help me store those as well.”

“No problem.” Autumn held out her hand to Leonel. “Happy working together.”

“Happy working together.” Leonel shook her hand and noticed that the calluses between her thumb and forefinger had become much thicker than the last time they met.

Looks like she’d been keeping herself very busy lately.

That evening, when the temperature had finally become bearable, Autumn took the key Leonel had given her and drove back into the city.

Leonel had rented an entire massive cold-storage warehouse, and inside were mountains of processed, packaged meat.

When Autumn opened the warehouse door, she couldn’t help taking a sharp breath.

Holy crap!

That was a hundred thousand cattle, a hundred thousand sheep, and well over a hundred thousand pigs!

There was enough meat there to feed Leonel’s team for a hundred years!

And that was only part of his supplies.

Seriously…

What a day to be jealous of the rich.

Autumn didn’t hesitate for a second. With a wave of her hand, she began storing everything away.

The more she collected, the happier she became, since one-tenth of it belonged to her.

After finishing the last shipment, she turned and headed to the regular warehouse next door.

The moment she opened the door, she was stunned again.

The entire warehouse was filled with apocalypse survival kits.

These were packages specifically produced in Beautania for survival enthusiasts. Every large package contained 30 years’ worth of canned food, jerky, vitamins, dried vegetables, water purification tablets, bottled water, and a medical kit.
