Reborn Cave Queen of the End Times novel Chapter 60

Chapter 60 Knowledge Is Power

Farming wasn’t just digging a hole and dropping in a seed.

There was real science to it.

She’d been worrying over how to put that land to use, and now, the solution had practically dropped into her lap.

Autumn gave Leonel a nod.

“Good.” Leonel took Mason Langford’s hand at once with a warm, welcoming grip. “We have a lot of respect for educated people here, and we take good care of them. We’ll be counting on you from now on.

Mason said nervously, “Yes, yes, yes. As long as you’ve got use for me, Mr. Wright, I’ll give it everything I’ve got. Everything I know, I’ll teach the whole lot of them!”

“This is Dr. Jensen. She’s got a doctorate in chemistry. Never mind the rest-give her the basic materials, and she can whip up homemade mines or crude cannons no problem,” the man in glasses said, pushing a woman forward and talking her up hard.

Priscilla Jensen wasn’t old, 27 or 28 at most.

But after fleeing for her life and scrambling to stay safe, she looked worn down and exhausted.

She managed a thin smile and introduced herself. “I did my bachelor’s at one top university, and my master’s and doctorate at another. I’ll build this base a real line of fire defense, I promise you!”

Leonel’s eyes lit up even more. He’d started to reach for her hand, then thought better of it and gave a respectful nod instead. “Welcome, welcome.”

The instant Priscilla saw the respect in his manner, her eyes went red.

For a woman, the apocalypse was the hardest road of all.

These past few months, she’d seen far too much of the world’s cruelty toward women. And yet, Leonel still chose to treat her with respect.

For the first time, that gave the lost, helpless Priscilla a sense of belonging.

“Thank you, Mr. Wright. I’ll give you everything I have and pour everything I’ve learned into this place!” Halfway through, Priscilla started to cry.

“This is Ms. Atkinson…”

This is Mr. Robertson…”

The man in glasses introduced every teacher behind him one by one, and only then got to himself. “My name’s Oscar Laurent. I’m a dean of student affairs. I don’t do much frontline teaching, but I really did come out of a teachers college. My majors were education and management, and my mom was a kindergarten teacher, so I minored in early childhood ed on top of it. Once you guys start having kids. I’ll make a fine preschool teacher.”

The moment he said it, every man around him lit up.

Autumn laughed out loud. Oscar really did have a gift. He’d gone straight for the sore spot.

Let’s be real-what young person out here doesn’t want to find a partner, get married, and start a family?

But once you have kids, who’s going to watch them? Who’s going to teach them?

Well, there you go. Problem solved.

Leonel looked to Autumn. She nodded. Every one of these dozen could stay.

Just like Leonel had said, feeding this bunch wouldn’t even use up a single warehouse of grain, but it would do wonders for winning hearts and pulling everyone tight together.

With terms like Leonel’s on the table, those hundred-plus people wouldn’t betray him if you beat them to death.
