"We know everyone on Team Phoenix, and it was definitely none of them. Was it really a temporary fill-in? By the way, didn't two other guys come with Allan? Could it be one of them?"
Nate thought of Dylan and Jon.
"Impossible! Jon is poor as dirt; he doesn't have the money for a bike and has never ridden one. It can't be him. The other one is Dylan. Rumor has it he was a cripple until recently. He's probably just recovered and wouldn't be fit for this kind of race. It's likely not him either."
"Then who on earth is it?"
"Who cares? I'll test that kid Allan again later. Riley... I have to meet him. He's my idol!"
Elena and her group drove back to the city and met up with Allan.
Tonight was a celebration. Allan insisted on treating them to supper.
So, everyone went for barbecue.
A group of them sat on the rooftop terrace, eating skewers and drinking beer, having the time of their lives.
Elena's identity was known only to a select few, and Allan had sworn them all to secrecy.
"Sis! Why aren't you my biological sister? I love you so much; I have to have a drink with you!" Allan held up his glass.
Dylan immediately blocked him, his eyes carrying a warning.
"Uh... Brother-in-law, don't worry, I'm not trying to steal Sis from you. I'm just genuinely happy and impressed!" Allan quickly explained.
He figured Dylan must have misunderstood.
"That's more like it."
"This glass is to Sis, Brother-in-law, and Jon! Meeting you guys makes me feel like my life hasn't been wasted!"
Allan downed his drink in one go.
Elena drank a glass as well.
"Sis, when did you learn to ride a motorcycle?" Jon asked quietly.
He felt like he had discovered one of his sister's secret identities today.
"A while ago. Don't go spreading this around," Elena instructed.
"The moon is beautiful tonight," he murmured.
He hadn't felt this happy in a long time.
For as long as he could remember, his life had been about striving to be excellent.
To bring honor to his mother.
He had never relaxed, never thought about what kind of life he actually wanted to live.
Hanging out with a rascal like Allan today actually felt quite pleasant.
Especially now, carefree, turning his head to see the person he liked right beside him.
"Elena, the way you looked on the track tonight is something I'll remember for the rest of my life. Two years ago, at the TT Challenge abroad... that Riley was you, wasn't it?"
"You know about Riley too?" Elena asked.
"Yeah. Before my accident, a friend invited me to watch the race live. Riley was just as dashing back then. You became a god in one move, driving the crowd absolutely crazy."
