Daniel let out a heavy sigh. "It's true, but you're mistaken. We didn't steal this opportunity; you were the ones who threw it away!"
The members of the second branch wore expressions of undisguised resentment.
"Daniel, even if we gave it up, the engagement was originally meant for our Cathy!" Edward argued.
Amanda couldn't hold back any longer. For the first time, she spoke up with boldness.
She stepped forward and declared, "Edward, you can't twist the truth like that! The Sinclairs originally wanted your Cathy, but she refused to have anything to do with Dylan because of his paralysis. That's when you set your sights on our family, pushing Emily forward to take the fall. How can you stand there and say these things now?"
Christine, Edward's wife, bristled at this.
She sneered sarcastically, "Oh, look at you. Do you really think just because you married into the family, you're one of us? You're just a country bumpkin. And now that my big brother can stand again, you think you have a voice? This is the Whelan household; there's no place for you to speak!"
Bullying her mother together? Elena wasn't going to let that slide.
"Aunt Christine, if my mother is an outsider, then so are you. Regardless of where she came from, she is my father's lawfully wedded wife. If she has no right to speak here, then neither do you."
"You ill-bred brat! Since when do children interrupt their elders?" Christine gritted her teeth, cursing vilely.
"Exactly! Who do you think you are?" Cathy chimed in, rushing to support her mother.
Unexpectedly, Elena stepped right up to Cathy's face and snapped, "You ill-bred brat! Since when do children interrupt their elders? If I can't interrupt, what gives you the right? Are you deaf?"
Cathy was stunned into silence.
She stood there, momentarily bewildered.
"Daniel, your wife and daughter are completely out of control! Are you just going to stand there and not discipline them?" The Matriarch asked in a cold voice.
"I can't control them," Daniel stated bluntly.
At the mention of the betrothal gifts, the second and third branches looked guilty. Of that billion in cash, the second branch took three hundred million, the third branch took three hundred million, and the remaining four hundred million went into the Matriarch's account.
As for the company gifted by the Sinclairs, it was put under the Matriarch's name.
The jewelry and other assets were partially kept by the Matriarch, while the rest was divided between the second and third branches.
Bam!
The Matriarch suddenly slammed her hand down on the table.
"Insolence!" She was trembling with rage.
Her face was a mask of authoritarian fury. "Daniel, since you refuse to discipline them, I will do it for you. Amanda, that wretched woman, has become increasingly unruly. She dares to act wildly in my house? Does she forget where she is? It's bad enough she comes from low stock, but to spout such nonsense... allowing her to stand here was already an act of mercy, yet she dares to be this presumptuous."
