“Mom, why are you here?” Daniel asked, confused.
“Hmph!” The old lady snorted coldly, her wrinkled face filled with anger.
Cathy and Edward supported her on either side as they walked in.
She sat down heavily on the sofa.
“Daniel, stop hiding it. You’d better just confess what happened!” Edward said, gloating.
Daniel looked completely bewildered, having no idea what he meant.
“Edward, I don’t know what you’re talking about!”
Cathy let out a cold laugh. “Uncle Daniel, Grandmother came here personally. I advise you to come clean and stop covering things up.”
“Covering up? Covering up what?” Elena walked in from outside.
She knew Edward's family had bad intentions and were ready to bully her father again.
Cathy felt like she had a winning hand and was incredibly smug.
She was just waiting to see Daniel and Elena kicked out of the company and the family!
She felt invincible right now.
“Elena, how long do you think you can hide the mess you and your father made?” Cathy asked.
Elena smiled. “Cathy, you keep saying we’re hiding something. Why don’t you tell us what it is? Don’t stand there making baseless accusations with nothing to back them up!”
“You really won't shed a tear until you see the coffin! Something huge happened at the company last night, and you still want to hide it?”
“Daniel, stop acting. Isn't it exhausting? Fire trucks came last night, and many people saw the flames lighting up the sky. You still want to deny it?”
Daniel finally understood.
“Oh, Edward, you’re talking about the fire last night. That wasn’t our factory; it was the one next door. The fire trucks were there to put out their fire. What does that have to do with our company?”
“Ha! Uncle Daniel, stop making excuses. Do you think we’ll believe you just because you use the neighbor as a scapegoat? It was clearly our factory on fire, yet you claim it was next door. Are you that afraid of Grandmother knowing?” Cathy stepped forward and argued.
Daniel was rendered speechless by the father-daughter duo.
Daniel had inspected the company this morning. The warehouse was perfectly fine; there was no fire.
It was the neighbor that had caught fire suddenly last night. Fortunately, the fire trucks arrived in time and extinguished it.
The neighboring factory wasn’t far—just across the street—but it certainly wasn’t their company burning.
