Cathy stepped forward and whispered, “Uncle Daniel, I’m sorry.”
“Alright, we’re all family. Daniel, you shouldn’t hold a grudge against a child,” the old woman interjected.
Daniel, of course, couldn't argue with the younger generation in front of his mother.
He could only say, “Fine. Just learn from this.”
Seeing that Daniel wasn’t pursuing it further, Cathy immediately tried to slip away.
“Wait! Cathy, you haven’t paid up on the bet yet!” Elena stopped her again.
She knew exactly what Cathy was thinking—trying to escape unscathed.
“Elena, your father let it go. What are you still holding onto? You need to be more generous. Learn from your father!” Edward scolded.
“Ha!” Elena let out a sarcastic laugh. Moral kidnapping now?
Too bad she didn’t care about their morals. They couldn’t guilt-trip her.
“Uncle Edward, that might work on my dad because he’s a gentleman, but it doesn’t work on me. I didn’t force Cathy into that bet. Grandma was there, she’s the witness! Even though she apologized to my dad, she still has to get on her knees, slap herself ten times, and say she was wrong!”
Cathy looked panicked. She didn’t want to be humiliated like that!
“Grandma...” Cathy quickly hid behind the old woman.
“Elena, live and let live. Since the company is fine and everyone is family, there’s no need for the slapping, is there? Cathy already apologized,” the old woman said.
Elena knew the old woman would protect her favorites.
Cathy had grown up in front of her. Grandchildren like Elena, who had been kicked out, meant nothing to the old woman.
Elena walked over and whispered to the old woman, “Grandma, you saw it yourself. Cathy insisted on finding fault today. She came looking for trouble; we didn't start this. She was aggressive at every turn, which led to this situation. Did she ever intend to spare us?”
“Also, you weren’t the only witness. Look at the management team. They are the company’s elite. If they find out that you, the Chairperson, don’t keep your word, what authority will you have left? Anyone could disobey your orders. You can’t encourage that kind of behavior.”
The old woman’s expression stiffened. She hadn’t expected to be cornered by a youngster.
The surrounding managers were indeed watching.
If she protected Cathy now, it would look bad. This girl had trapped her.
*Slap!*
“I was wrong!”
...
With every slap and apology, the surrounding managers whispered among themselves. They felt Cathy had dug her own grave.
After ten slaps, Cathy’s face was bright red.
“Woooo...” After finishing, she immediately scrambled up and ran away.
She had never suffered such a grievance in her entire life!
Edward, seeing his daughter humiliated, was furious inside. But since he was in the wrong, he had to endure it. He glared at Daniel and Elena, snorted coldly, and walked away.
Daniel watched everyone disperse and returned to his office.
“Elena, thanks to you... I can't believe someone actually tried to sabotage us. If not for your precautions, I wouldn't have been able to explain this away today. This must have been Cathy’s plan. I know your uncle; he wants to push me out, but he wouldn’t joke with the company’s assets. Cathy really has no sense of limits to do something like this!” Daniel said.
