Daniel bowed his head respectfully. "Yes, Mom."

"Ma'am, there's something I need to tell you while everyone is here," Justin suddenly announced, standing up.

"Justin, just sit down and say whatever is on your mind," the old matriarch said. She had always held a soft spot for her side of the family.

Justin walked over and took Claire's hand.

"Grandma, I want to marry Claire! I love her!"

The room went silent with shock.

Although Amanda and Daniel knew the two had feelings for each other, they hadn't expected Justin to propose so soon.

"Cousin, do you have any idea what you're saying?" Cathy asked angrily.

She was the only one visibly upset.

Justin was the man she had set her sights on. For weeks, she had been pestering him at the company, trying to wear him down, but he had shown zero interest. And now he wanted to marry Claire?

The matriarch looked a bit surprised and turned her gaze to Daniel.

"Daniel, what do you think?"

Daniel was clearly excited. "Mom, since Justin and Claire care for each other, I have no objections. Justin is a good kid; I trust him. What do you say?"

The old lady trusted him as well.

Amanda looked on with anticipation, praying the matriarch wouldn't object. In the past, no one had dared to propose to Claire because their family was poor. Now that they finally had a prospect as excellent as Justin, she didn't want to let the opportunity slip away.

"Justin, are you serious about this?" the matriarch asked.

"Absolutely! Ma’am, please give us your blessing," Justin said, exchanging a look with Claire.

The love between them was palpable; it was clear they had discussed this privately for a long time.

The matriarch sighed. "Very well. Pick a date for the engagement. Make sure your parents come to Cresden City for it."

The matriarch understood immediately upon seeing her expression.

"You need to discipline him. If he doesn't get into a good university, we'll have to pull strings later."

Seeing an opening, Amanda couldn't help but chime in. "Mom, our Jon is taking the exams this year, too."

The matriarch glanced at the eldest son's family. "Jon is taking them too?"

It was obvious she didn't care about them at all. She didn't even know her grandson was graduating.

"Yes, Mom," Daniel said. "Jon and Nate go to the same school. They're classmates."

"Mom, Jon's grades are excellent. He was top of his class in the finals last semester! Getting into his dream university shouldn't be a problem this year."

Amanda felt a surge of pride. Jon had really turned his life around; even his teachers were praising him, and he had won a scholarship.

However, to the second and third branches of the family, it just looked like Amanda was showing off.
