Wearing high heels and clutching a designer bag, her hips swayed exaggeratedly as she walked.
"Oh, isn't this Amanda? You're here for the parent-teacher conference too?" Lauren looked her up and down.
In comparison, Amanda was dressed plainly and looked very simple.
"Yes. You're here for Nate, I assume?"
"Of course. Finals are coming up soon. Do you know where Jon is planning to go for college?"
Amanda replied immediately, "He says he wants to go abroad, but it's not decided yet."
"Abroad? How much money are you planning to sink into that? Listen, Amanda, if you don't have the means, he should just stay in the country. Tuition abroad is expensive, and not every family can afford it. Even though Daniel has shares in the Whelan family business now, you still have a whole family to feed!"
Amanda replied politely, "You don't need to worry about that."
She didn't want to talk to Lauren anymore, so she walked over to find a seat.
Lauren scoffed coldly and muttered about her being a hillbilly.
Coming from the countryside, she just couldn't make the cut.
Amanda saw a row with a few empty seats.
She randomly chose one and sat down.
"Isn't this Mrs. Whelan? You're here for the meeting too?" A woman suddenly stood up next to where Amanda was sitting.
The person she was sucking up to was Lauren, the third brother's wife.
"Mrs. Sanders, hello! Long time no see!" Lauren smiled.
A few other wealthy wives began to chat.
"Mrs. Whelan, sit over here! Let's sit together!" Mrs. Sanders invited, mistaking the situation or perhaps just trying to be polite to the Whelan family connection.
But the seats next to her were full, and the person sitting right there was Amanda.
Mrs. Sanders glanced at Amanda. "Excuse me, could you go find a seat over there? We're all together."
Ten students walked up to the podium.
The principal personally handed them their certificates.
"Additionally, a special mention for Jon from the Senior Class. In this year's exams, Jon took first place in the entire state. This isn't the first time; Jon has held the top spot several times in a row. This year's scholarship should also be awarded to Jon!"
As he spoke, the principal presented the scholarship check, which was worth several thousand dollars.
Although it wasn't much money to the wealthy people in the room, getting a scholarship was a glory that money couldn't buy.
Amanda was so moved she almost cried.
My son is truly outstanding!
"With finals approaching, everyone should look to Jon as an example. He is well-rounded in character and academics, a representative of our excellent student body. I heard that in his sophomore year, Jon was at the bottom of his class. Through hard work and perseverance, he rose to become the state champion."
"We would now like to invite Jon's parent to come up and share their parenting methods with everyone. How did she save a child who was last in his class and turn him into today's number one student? Is Jon's parent here?"
