"Amelia is always so thoughtful!" Xavier said, clearly gratified.
The impending family war had been completely defused simply by Amelia's return.

At the Ellington Group.
Theresa Ellington clocked in and arrived at the office bright and early.
To her surprise, she spotted a familiar figure in the office.
Wasn't that Charles Pembroke?
Why was he here! Hadn't he been fired?
Charles noticed her as well and strutted over with a smug grin. "Morning, Theresa."
"What are you still doing here?" Theresa demanded.
"What? Surprised? Did you really think a little stunt like that could take me down? You're so naive! From now on, we're still going to be coworkers!"
Charles's smile was dripping with malice and calculation.
Theresa had thought the office would finally be peaceful without Charles around, but the snake had somehow slithered his way back in.
She immediately marched over to Rachel Ward's office to find out what was going on.
Entering the office, Theresa called out, "Ms. Ward."
"Can I help you?"
"I wanted to ask about Charles. Wasn't he fired? Why is he back at work today?"
Rachel shot her a displeased look. "That was a decision from upper management. Charles was given a formal warning and a fine. He's already been punished, so you need to let it go. You used to be friendly coworkers, after all. There's no need to be so aggressive."
Theresa couldn't believe what she was hearing. "Aggressive? He was the one who tried to frame me, and I'm the one pushing it? Ms. Ward, this isn't fair. Someone like him shouldn't be allowed to stay at the company!"
Rachel snapped back sharply, "Then what exactly do you want to do? Why don't you just take my job and run the department yourself!"
They zipped past the cars stuck in traffic, making him look just like a carefree, spirited teenager!
"By the way, did you get into an argument after you went home last night?" Elena asked over the wind.
She knew things couldn't be that simple. Dylan showing up out of the blue on a moped meant something was definitely on his mind.
"Yeah, we fought. Arguments are pretty common in my house, so it's nothing unusual."
"Did Amber blame you again? Because Patrick got hurt?"
Dylan chuckled. "It's fine. I'm used to it by now. The things she says are complete garbage to me at this point. I don't care about her opinion at all."
"Anyway, what happened with Damian?"
"Dad told him to stay away from the company for a while. He'll probably be stuck at home for the foreseeable future."
"Your dad is being way too biased. Damian commits a crime like that, and he just lets him off with a slap on the wrist?"
"That's just how it is. My father has favored him since we were kids, probably because he dotes on his mother so much. Damian has been a total screw-up his whole life, constantly causing trouble. Dad yells at him, sure, but it's only because he wants him to do better. He always cleans up Damian's messes in the end. He used to make me clean up after Damian a lot, too. I remember this one time when Damian was delirious with a high fever, Xavier stayed right by his bedside the entire time, completely ignoring his work."
