“This is outrageous!” Melissa slammed her phone onto the sofa.
“Mom, what happened?”
“That Sienna woman! She used to be so polite, practically begging for my business. Now she’s blocked me! I have no idea what I did to offend her. It’s baffling!”
Emily’s face fell. She had been fantasizing about showing off that necklace. “It’s okay, Mom. We can go to another brand. They aren’t the only jeweler in the world.”
Melissa nodded, trying to calm down, but the sting of rejection lingered. No other brand carried the cachet of LUMEN.

At Cresden Metropolitan University, Theresa pulled Elena aside the moment she arrived.
“Did you hear? The Holts and Sterlings are merging. Max and Emily are getting married next month!”
“I know. I’m planning to send them a hefty gift on their big day.”
Theresa grinned mischievously. “Ooh, you’ve got a plan? I can’t wait to see karma hit them.”
Elena went to class, arriving just as the bell rang. The room was buzzing with chatter.
“Aurora is finally releasing a new collection after six months! I’m so excited!”
“Too bad we’re on a student budget. We can’t even dream of buying it.”
“Anything Aurora touches turns to gold. It’ll sell out in seconds.”
After class, students crowded around Elena’s desk.
“This is actually really good.”
“Yeah, the silhouette is fresh.”
“Especially the detailing on the hem. It’s exquisite.”
Bianca Fairchild stood apart from the group, her arms crossed, watching with a sneer. “What’s so great about it? It looks like plagiarism to me. Haven’t you noticed? The sleeves, the pattern... it’s ripping off Aurora’s style. She’s just a copycat.”
She stepped closer, glaring at Elena. “Shameless. I’m an Aurora superfan, and I won’t let you rip off her genius. Her designs are unique!”
