She quickly turned her head, shoving at his chest with both hands. "You... what are you..."
"I'm sorry, Elena! I... I didn't mean to," Dylan stammered, panic and guilt in his voice.
He pushed himself up with his arms, rolling to the side to free her.
Elena scrambled off the bed, her face burning. "Just... practice by yourself. I'm leaving!"
Dylan lay there, stunned.
He touched his lips tentatively. They still tingled with a phantom warmth—soft, sweet, and lingering. He stared at the ceiling, his mind racing.

The next morning, Elena was heading out for class when Amanda stopped her.
"Elena, Jon left in such a rush he forgot his literature textbook. If he doesn't have it, he'll get in trouble."
"I'll drop it off, Mom. I have to pass his high school anyway."
Elena grabbed the book and headed out.
At the high school, Jon was walking toward the gate when a sports car roared up behind him, drifting dangerously close before skidding to a halt. The flashy entrance drew everyone's eyes.
Nate Whelan stepped out, twirling a set of car keys. He spotted Jon and smirked.
"Took the bus again, didn't you? What do you think of my new ride?" Nate asked loudly.
Nate blinked. "Allan? You hate him too. Why don't you teach him a lesson?"
"Dream on!" Allan spat. "I used to listen to your nonsense, which is why I disrespected Jon. But I've seen the light. I am now Jon's loyal lackey. I suggest you show him some respect!"
Nate burst out laughing. "Allan, are you high? You're his lackey? Are you hearing yourself?"
"Laugh all you want. Being Jon's lackey is an honor you don't qualify for!" Allan declared proudly.
Even Jon curled his toes in secondhand embarrassment. Allan was taking the 'loyal dog' role a little too seriously.
"You're sick in the head, Allan," Nate scoffed. The Mortons were wealthy; why would Allan bow to a poor kid?
"Listen to me, Nate. If you touch a hair on Jon's head, you answer to me!" Allan threatened.
