It turned out that ever since Cathy had caught Justin and Claire together the other day, she was convinced they were having an affair.
Now, she had brought her temper tantrum all the way to the main estate.
"What kind of nonsense are you spouting? Claire already said that's not what happened. There's nothing going on between her and Justin!" Amanda stepped forward, fiercely defending her daughter.
"Of course she's not going to admit it! But everyone saw it with their own eyes!"
Seeing the situation spiraling, Justin stepped in. "Cathy, haven't you caused enough of a scene? Claire and I didn't do anything. Why won't you believe me? Why did you have to drag this all the way over here?"
"What? If you have nothing to hide, what are you so afraid of? Look at you, still defending this little tramp! I think you're just hung up on your ex!"
"You..."
Justin had the overwhelming urge to slap her right across the face.
But they were surrounded by the entire Whelan family. If he actually hit her here, the consequences would be severe.
In the end, he bit his tongue and held back.
"Cathy, I've explained what happened that day over and over. Justin was just helping me look for Elena. There is truly nothing going on between us. Why can't you just let this go?" Claire pleaded.
"Oh, please! You still have the nerve to talk? Using Elena as an excuse? She's perfectly fine, alive and kicking! She never went missing! I caught you two that one time, but God knows how much shady stuff you've pulled behind my back! Why is my life such a miserable mess?" Cathy wailed, putting on a pathetic crying act.
Edward Whelan spoke up, "Daniel, your Claire crossed a line. How could your family let something so embarrassing happen? We're all family here. What will people say if this gets out?"
Daniel retorted sharply, "Edward, my Claire would never do something like that. This is all a huge misunderstanding. You're throwing around some very serious accusations!"
"I've never even laid a finger on my daughter. I won't let you hit her!"
"Are you all going to defy me? Disciplining my grandchildren is my absolute right."
The butler retrieved a heavy wooden ruler. Just as he was about to step forward, Elena walked through the door.
"Stop right there!"
Everyone immediately turned to look at the entrance. Seeing Elena, Cathy felt a sudden pang of intimidation.
Out of Daniel's entire family, Elena was the only one she was actually afraid of.
