If Lucas could never have children, the Maddox family bloodline was officially dead.
"Doctor! Doctor, tell me you're lying! How could this happen to my son? Tell me there's a way to fix this!"
"I'm... I'm so sorry, sir. Our facility cannot repair damage this extensive. However, there is one place that might be able to attempt a miracle."
"Where?" Christopher demanded, desperate for any lifeline.
"Seraphis Private Clinic."
"Seraphis? The Ellington family's hospital?"
"Yes. Right now, it's the absolute best medical facility in Cresden City. Rumor has it they have a genius surgeon on staff who can practically raise the dead. Just recently, they admitted a patient who was completely paralyzed from severe trauma, and that patient walked out of the hospital not long after."
"From the medical reports, your son's injuries are startlingly similar to that patient's. If Seraphis Private Clinic could save them, they might be able to save your son."
Christopher's eyes sparked with manic hope. "Are they really that miraculous?"
"Yes. Not only do they employ elite, world-class surgeons, but they also have access to proprietary experimental drugs formulated by their own internal R&D department. You simply cannot buy them on the open market. That's why Seraphis is so legendary. However, it's incredibly exclusive. Getting an admission is extremely difficult."
If there was even a shred of hope, Christopher would burn through his entire fortune to get Lucas a bed at Seraphis.
He was his only son.
Besides, at the end of the day, all hospitals ran on money.
He would just throw millions of dollars at them until they said yes.
"Mr. Maddox, what are your orders?" his assistant asked quietly.
"Contact Seraphis Private Clinic immediately. Tell them my son is being transferred for emergency treatment. Tell them price is no object."
"And the person who did this to Lucas? Shall we continue the manhunt?"
But when she confidently marched into the Director's office to demand her termination, Sienna Hayes casually pulled a piece of paper from her desk.
"This is Elena Whelan's approved leave of absence."
Elaine froze. "Director, I'm Elena's direct supervisor. If she needs time off, shouldn't she route the request through me? Why wasn't I informed? Why did the paperwork bypass me entirely?"
"Don't be so dramatic. She had to leave for a sudden family emergency and bumped into me at the entrance. She explained the situation, and I signed off on it right there. I simply forgot to mention it to you."
Elaine was utterly speechless.
She couldn't shake the feeling that Sienna was aggressively protecting Elena. Was it really all because of Claire Whelan's influence?
"Director, that's incredibly unprofessional of her. The least she could have done was text me. I haven't heard a single word from her this entire time."
"Perhaps she avoids you because you're excessively harsh on her," Sienna replied smoothly.
