Reborn Fake Heiress Watch the Whole Family Burn novel Chapter 837

Out in the hall, they were terrified she was secretly transferring assets to Daniel.

Inside, the room fell dead silent, leaving only mother and son.

"Mom, whatever you need to say, I'm listening."

"My boy," she breathed, her voice filled with heavy regret. "It took me a lifetime to realize how blind I've been. I thought I was a great judge of character, but I was wrong from the very beginning. I should never have treated your family so poorly, especially you and Elena. Out of all three of my sons, you were the only one who inherited my and your father's intellect. Your brothers are completely incompetent. I finally see that now."

She squeezed his hand weakly. "You have the kindest heart. In business and in life, you were always the best of us."

Daniel lowered his gaze. "Then why did you despise me so much? I remember when I was young, you expected the world from me. But somewhere along the line, you just started hating me. Especially after I married Amanda. You practically threw me out onto the street."

It was the question that had haunted him for decades. He had no idea what he had done to deserve it.

Old Mrs. Whelan let out a ragged sigh. "I will tell you why. It's because you look exactly like your father. Out of all the boys, you are a carbon copy of Arthur Whelan. Every time I looked at you, I saw him. It felt like a knife twisting in my gut. I couldn't stand it."

Daniel stared at her in shock.

"Why? I thought you and Dad were deeply in love. Everyone admired your marriage. You never even remarried after he died."

"The assistant was always by his side. They had been carrying on for years. They were even together before he married me. I felt so betrayed. So deeply humiliated."

"And then I found out he was planning to leave half of the Whelan estate to his lover. He had already drafted the will. I was consumed by hatred! I gave him three children! Why did he lie to me? If he didn't love me, why did he marry me in the first place!"

She closed her eyes, remembering that fateful day in the study when she had finally confronted him.

"Arthur, why did you do this to me?" she had screamed. "You married me just to keep up appearances, while you lived this filthy lie in secret!"

Arthur had just stared at her coldly. "Since you know, I won't deny it. My family forced me to marry you. They needed me to produce heirs. Once the bloodline was secured, I was free to live my life. Did you really think I wanted you?"
