On the way to their tent, Elena spotted a familiar figure—Julian.
He had come, just as expected.
Julian wore a look of supreme arrogance, boasting loudly that the championship tonight belonged to him. The people around him were fawning and sycophantic, eager to curry favor.
“Mr. Sterling, long time no see. I knew you’d be racing tonight!” Nate approached, clearly trying to strike up a conversation. In his eyes, networking with a Sterling was a smart move.
But Julian, arrogant as ever, didn’t think Nate was worth his time.
“Tonight, the championship is mine. Your name is Nate, right? I’ve heard of you. If you know what’s good for you, don’t get in my way.”
Nate was stunned.
He hadn’t expected Julian to be so rude. His attempt to suck up had failed miserably. Since that was the case, he dropped the politeness.
“We’ll see the truth on the track!” Nate replied with a vicious glint in his eye.
Julian didn’t even spare him a glance before walking away.
Nate kicked a plastic water bottle on the ground in frustration.
“Who does he think he is! Does he think the Sterlings are still what they used to be? Looking down on people like that!” Nate silently vowed to take the championship tonight.
He suddenly noticed Jon watching.
“What are you looking at? Jon, are you racing later?” Nate snapped.
Jon replied calmly, “I’m not. I’m just here to watch.”
“Hah! Of course you aren’t. A poor ghost like you can’t even afford a bike, let alone play a high-end sport like this!” Nate mocked. Venting his anger from Julian onto Jon seemed to make him feel better.
The spectators in the tent gasped in horror.
They watched helplessly as man and machine disappeared into the abyss. Some faces turned pale with fear.
This truly was Grimveil Gorge.
“Julian is a bastard! That was absolutely intentional!” Allan slammed his fist onto the table.
Even though it was a rider from another team, falling into that valley meant almost certain death. No decent human being would drive someone to their death like that.
Jon, witnessing such a perilous moment for the first time, fell silent. Life and death were separated by a hair’s breadth.
Soon, Julian overtook the rival Kim and seized first place. Along the way, he took down several other racers. Some suffered minor crashes; others fell into the gorge.
He was ruthless.
