Elena snapped her head around and saw Dylan Sinclair charging into the fray.

He wasn't alone. Sean Maddox and Tyler Smith were right behind him, flanked by heavily armed men.

"Boss! We've got your back!" Tyler yelled, immediately opening fire.

Their arrival provided instant cover, giving Elena a desperately needed second to breathe.

"Dylan, what are you doing here?" she shouted over the gunfire.

"I told you I'd never let you walk into danger alone. You lied to me again, but luckily I figured it out in time. Whatever fight you're in, Elena, it's my fight too!"

Just as the words left his mouth, a stray bullet shattered the concrete near them. Elena tackled him hard to the floor.

"It's a slaughterhouse in here! You could get killed!"

"That's exactly why I'm here. I can handle myself. Move!"

Dylan pulled her up, and together they navigated the chaotic crossfire, keeping their eyes locked on Sirius.

Elena drew her handgun, checking her magazine.

"Stay right here. I'm taking Sirius out!"

Before Dylan could object, she vaulted over a shattered marble pillar.

"Elena!" Dylan yelled, panic seizing him.

Sirius wasn't alone. He was surrounded by over twenty elite bodyguards. Getting a clean shot was nearly impossible.

"Elena of Northmoon, you really think you can take on my best men by yourself?" Sirius taunted, a sick smile playing on his lips.

"What about with me?" Logan Hughes suddenly roared, crashing through a side window in a hail of glass.

"What took you so long?" Elena snapped.

If Dylan and Sean hadn't arrived exactly when they did, her vanguard unit would have been wiped out.

"Jesse Vance sold us out!" Logan yelled back as he fired a three-round burst. "That bastard blocked the backup. He claimed since you technically left the organization, they had no obligation to risk their men for you. He ordered a stand-down."

"I knew he was dirty! I had to rally the old guard who were still loyal to you, and Jesse actually tried to stop us. We had a massive firefight just to get out of the compound. I had to leave men behind to hold them off. I could only bring a dozen guys!"
