Hayden's face was full of confusion as he scrutinized Quentin, all the while going through the memories he had from his past life.

He had little impression of Prima Auction House and could not remember if this man had ever engaged in deceitful behavior. However, if this guy intended to set him up, then it could mean trouble.

Perhaps the man planned to start by offering an exceptional price for the gem, then follow it up with a loophole-laden contract to exploit him.

The more Hayden thought about it, the more he wanted to back out of this deal. After all, free money never came with no strings attached.

"What's wrong, my friend? Why aren't you saying anything? Is my offer too low? If it is, we can negotiate!"

Quentin began to panic after seeing Hayden's hesitation. He had assumed this to be a straightforward task, but this young man turned out to be unexpectedly cautious. He couldn't let him walk away now.

"I have a question. How much do you personally value this gem to be?" Hayden asked out of the blue.

"Well…" Quentin hesitated for a moment, then shook his head awkwardly.

"Sir, you might not know this. To someone who appreciates this gem, it's a priceless treasure! In fact, I wouldn't even think of putting it up for auction. I'd place it here in the auction house as a centerpiece. After all, I love this emerald too much to part with it."

Quentin did not bother to hide his admiration for the gem, staring at it the whole time.

However, that was a rookie mistake. For a businessman, openly displaying personal interest like that was taboo.

If Quentin truly adored the gem, Hayden would have the chance to raise the price. If Quentin really wanted it that badly, he would have to pay through his nose.

Hayden frowned deeply, his face scrunched up in doubt. He still felt that something was amiss.

Was this man here being serious?

"Sir, say something. If you think the price is too low, we can negotiate further!"

There was nothing he could do.

Helpless, he decided to make a phone call.

"Mr. Schnapps, I'm afraid your task is an impossible one. Hayden just left with the stone. I offered him 300 million dollars, yet he still refused to sell it. He seems to have lost interest in selling it, so I thought I'd let you know."

Hearing that, David blew his lid immediately.

"Are you an idiot? Who told you to offer 300 million dollars outright?"

"But didn't you say that this gem could easily be auctioned off for 300 million dollars?" Quentin's lips twitched as he felt utterly flabbergasted.

"I said it's worth 300 million dollars in auction, but you offered to buy it for 300 million dollars outright. Who knows what you could be scheming? He's a cautious one, so he probably thought you were trying to pull some kind of trick! Can't you just follow the standard protocol?" David shouted furiously over the phone.
