“It’s alright; I’ll bounce back.” Margaery’s eyes flickered to the mirror, her reflection a stark reminder of her current state. She had already confided in Craig about the drug’s terrifying side effects. It was a dreadful sight, but she was convinced it wouldn’t lead to any lasting damage.
Adam’s anxiety was palpable, gnawing at him like a persistent itch. Finally, he resolved, “I’ll arrange for someone to keep tabs on the Wallen family.” The truth hung heavy in his mind; he was eager to rush off and find Dashnell.

As darkness draped itself over the land, the Wallen family was the first to hear the shocking news: Margaery had been poisoned, leaving her mute, disfigured, and her body in a state of decay.
Tessa’s heart raced with joy, though she expertly masked her elation with a few well-timed crocodile tears. “I truly didn’t foresee Margaery facing such dire straits. Who could possess such malice to harm her?”
“She’s a woman; if she’s disfigured, what future could she possibly have?” she lamented, pressing her hands to her face in mock sorrow.
*Disfigured? How splendid!* she mused inwardly, her excitement bubbling beneath the surface. She yearned to rush off and share this news with Nathaniel, eager to see if he would still desire the Crown Princess.
*The esteemed Crown Princess of the Eastvale Empire, poised to be the future Queen, is now a mute! If this leaks out, what a spectacle it will be!* Tessa nearly burst into laughter at the thought.
Joshua, momentarily caught off guard, quickly regained his composure. Pressing his lips together, he declared, “She deserves it! For someone like her, it’s only natural to offend others. This is the price she pays for leaving the Chancellor’s estate.”
Avery chimed in, her voice dripping with disdain. “Indeed, evil begets evil! She’s committed so many wrongs that even the heavens must be fed up!”
*You’ve ruined my future; what gain do you expect from this?* Avery felt a wave of satisfaction wash over her.
Clyde inhaled deeply, a smug smile creeping across his face. “Well done! I can’t help but wonder who’s serving justice on heaven’s behalf! If I discover who did this, I must prepare a fitting gift to express my gratitude!”
Raul remained silent for a moment, then scoffed, “She thought she could make something of herself after leaving the Chancellor’s estate. Without this family’s protection, what value does she hold?”
In summary, the emotions swirling within the Wallen family were complex yet unified in one sentiment: Margaery had received her just desserts, and the one who poisoned her was merely an agent of divine retribution.
Once outside, Tessa wasted no time in instructing Shraya, “Find a way to send a discreet message to the Eastern Palace.”
She hoped that once Nathaniel caught wind of this calamity, he would sever his engagement with Margaery. Shraya nodded eagerly, “I’ll head out right away!” Her excitement was palpable.
Tessa took a deep breath, contemplating a visit to Halle. Yet, the fear of a confrontation exposing her true feelings held her back. She forced herself to remain composed.
After a while, Andrew returned, accompanied by the enigmatic Shadow Doctor. Upon seeing them beneath the eaves, Tessa felt a surge of excitement, almost rushing forward to embrace Shadow Doctor.
However, with Andrew present and the rest of the Wallen family occupying the room, she restrained herself. Casting a quick glance at Andrew, she turned to Keaton, performing a slight curtsy, and asked sweetly, “Andrew, is this the Shadow Doctor?”
Shadow Doctor regarded her with a fervent gaze. Yet, with others around, he turned to Andrew, inquiring, “Is this Lady Tessa?” Before Andrew could respond, he exclaimed, “She truly is a stunning beauty!”
Andrew smiled warmly, “Yes, she’s my sister. Mr. Wolfe, please come in.” He then called to Tessa, “Tessa, you should join us; it’s too chilly outside.”
“Thank you, Andrew,” Tessa replied, stealing another glance at Shadow Doctor before stepping into the warmth of the house.
“Lord Chancellor,” Shadow Doctor greeted Raul as he entered.
Raul stood, sizing him up with keen interest. “So you’re the famed Shadow Doctor! I’ve invited you here today because my youngest daughter has been plagued by a stubborn stomach ailment. We’ve truly exhausted all our options.”
